Add back and next for multiple page posts
« on: August 04, 2024, 12:41:16 PM »
Add next and back.

On any page that has more than 1 page, you get:

1 2 3 with brackets.  On a physical be it’s hard to press the proper next page.  You have to zoom.  Make a larger “back” and “next” in front and after the numbers already there.

If it’s there, I missed it:

What's a "physical be"?

Damn autocorrect.  On a phone.  The screen is so small. I press 3 when I want 2.  Or I have to zoom.

A large double << to left of the first number and a >> to the right of the last number would help.

Makes sense?

I suppose. . .

I don't have a phone, just a desktop with a monitor, keyboard and mouse - and no autocorrect

It's a nice suggestion.  There are no available mods to the forum software (SMF) to enable that.  The part of the SMF that does the Pages: ... part is in Subs.php as a function call, but... the code in the function is quite complex and I'm leery of applying custom code to it without an official mod.
Our version of SMF (2.0) is no longer supported, and due to some of our required mods not being available for the 2.1 supported version, we're kinda stuck.
So.. sorry, unable to add the requested enhancement.

I managed to find an old mod (for SMF 1.0) on smfhacks site and refitted the mod for SMF 2.0.x.

I think that does what you want.  It shows a 1st and Last to navigate to the first and last page and « and » to jog 1 page back and forward respectively.

Does that work for you?

That is what he asked for.   [tup]

I use both a phone and a computer.   For those with especially  fat fingers or just awkward, :) making the  1st and Last a "two word" value like "1st Page" and "Last Page" would provide a bigger button.  Checking a long thread on my Android phone seems to show adequate space for the "two word" buttons. 8)

Yes!  I belong on a ham radio (K2MIT here) and they have it and the interface looks the same.  That’s why I asked.  On second thought, it may have been a photography board.

That change would be great for phone users.  I would appreciate it.

Great improvement.

I thought we were talking about back and next.

Can it be:

Pages Back [1] 2 3...6 Next First Go Up

Back, Next, First and Go Up would be bold.  Numbers and brackets plain text.

Thoughts?  Thanks for the responsiveness.

I thought we were talking about back and next.

As you requested « and » do back and next. . .

You might still have to zoom  :)

I am seeing the >> but not the <<

That’s what I was trying to state—no well—in last post.  I used words for back and next.

My last post.  I love your site and just trying to make it better.

Thank you.

So it currently appears as:

Pages: 1st Page 1 [2] 3 4 » Last Page   Go Down and
Pages: 1st Page « 1 2 [3] 4 Last Page   Go Down

with the « (back one) and » (next one) only appearing when not redundant with 1st Page and Last Page links, which always appear if more than one page.

Did you want the « replaced with Back and the » replaced with Next?

Silly me.  I was looking at the lower left and didn’t see it.  I now see it in the lower right.

Thank you!

"previous" and "next" in lower right scroll through topics within the forum section, not pages of current subject.
