problems accessing api.weather.gov
« on: May 16, 2022, 12:34:40 PM »
I am seeing HTTP 502 errors for almost every access attempt to api.weather.gov. A lot of timeouts also.

E.g. https://api.weather.gov/gridpoints/BOX/64,79/forecast

Code: [Select]
<!-- HTTP stats:  RC=502 dest=23.11.196.13 port=443 (from sce=74.208.57.239)
      Times: dns=0.000 conn=0.014 pxfer=0.031 get=0.054 total=0.084 secs -->
<!-- headers returned:

I've sent email to nco.ops@noaa.gov reporting this and haven't heard anything back yet. If anyone can share more info and/or wants to also report the problem to NCO, please do.

Appears to be fixed. 502s went away, took a while for current alerts to fill in...

As the story goes, the NWS was attempting some upgrades which failed badly knocking out many web services.  They backed out of those updates to get everything working again but be prepared because they may try again tomorrow.

NCO NETWORK MAINTENANCE UPDATE...

NCO is rolling back the changes from this morning to correct the
latency seen from NCEP Centers accessing WCOSS1 supercomputers
(Mars/Venus). We will attempt this again tomorrow morning during
the scheduled maintenance window with the fix for the latency
also applied.
