PWS Dashboard - gust sticks when no wind
« on: October 11, 2021, 10:44:19 PM »
Hi Wim, I am using LTS-version 2020-12

There are times when the gust speed sticks, for lack of a better term.

At present there is a calm, no wind, yet the template is showing a gust of 4mph
Other variations of the template are showing 0 gusts and i have not seen this issue
previously. Your latest version here
Other versions with no sticking gusts are
https://www.brecklandweather.com/PWS34-X5wxsim
https://www.brecklandweather.com/pwsWD/
http://www.brecklandweather.com/pwsWD12/

I have recently got WLL and there are times when i see the gust speed stick in WD
but that generally sorts itself out, I'm still waiting for Brian to answer that one but
i do not think it is related to the above issue because WD is showing 0 wind whilst
your latest version is still showing 4mph and interestingly enough, that sticking gust
is not reflected in the graph on the template, although you can see when it sticks in WD.
Thanks

PS, i have made a few tiny alterations to the script, 1 is the clock in dark mode, 1 is
update times and the other is the inside temp is no longer rounded off, the sticking
issue was there before i changed the clock or indoor temp. This version is only for
personal use at home for now, i will have an unmodified version for public use later on.

PPS, gust is dropped to 2 now but still stuck at 2mph now stuck at 10mph,
one other is the METAR EGYM i changed to EGUL but EGYM is still in the status and
as stalled, not sure how to get rid of it i tried deleting the EGYM txt file but that didn't
do it from the status.arr

. . .

The clientraw format is nowadays an industry standard as multiple weather-programs supply that format to drive scripts like WD-live and others.

Windspeed and windgust are not standardised between different  weather-stations nor are the station-measurements interpreted the same way in different  weather-programs.

Most website-visitors expect: wind-speed (an average) should be lower then the wind-gust ( a sudden value)
But if you check your three other links, you will see that wind-gust is often lower then the wind-speed.

This year we discussed on the "official" PWS_Dashboard forum which "clientraw.txt values" to use for windspeed and wind-gust.  We found only 1 gust-value which was consistently higher then the windspeed. That is the 1 hour wind-gust value. But that value remains the same for longer periods.  it remains stuck.

The solution for now: back to the previous version of the "livedata"-script. I will change the current script to use the same values as your previous websites and attach it later today to this post.

In the next version there will be a selection box for clientraw users to select which fields to use for wind-speed and wind-gust.

Delete the the file  _my_settings/status.arr and it will be rebuild using your current links.
