Ecowitt need an app for better graphical display
« on: October 23, 2020, 01:18:27 AM »
Hi,

Iím new to Ecowitt and have been running my station for 5-6 days now.
I push my data to weather underground, and then use the weather underground app and other 3rd party apps to display the data.

Even WSView, Ecowittís app shows WU data before going into the device data.

My issue is that WU only has a basic set of data.
I want to access all my sensors.... and the best graphical display for that is the Ecowitt.net website.

We need an app that pulls from Ecowitt.net so that we can access all our data from in/outside our networks in an easily formatted way.

Sure I can access the webpage on my phone but how awesome would it be to have an Ecowitt app that allowed you to configure the data you wanted for quick viewing.

Does anyone know of an existing app like that, which pulls off Ecowitt.net?
Iím on an iOS device.
I believe there is already a thread about an android app in the works by 3rd party dev.

Cheers
Cvee

Not sure such a thing exists - something that will read data from ecowitt.net, I donít know if they have an automated interface to allow that.
There are ways to get the data off the consoles and send it elsewhere to do graphical displays, history etc but in parallel to sending to ecowitt.net. But its not just as simple as installing an app (except for the Android PWT app you mention by Da9L which is great and does some graphing).
Personally I have a GW1000 console as well as a HP2551 console display Both are able to feed a Raspberry Pi by various means to software n there called WeeWx. That has its own database and graphing etc. But for ease of us it can also send the data it to an internet data dashboard service to do graphing. I just initialstate.com but many are available. Then I just look at that webpage either iOS or Android or mac/PC. Example below. But it takes some work and tech know-how.

I guess Iím just suggesting that Ecowitt should make a better app.

Why do they default WeatherUnderground on WSView app instead of their own Ecowitt.net data.

As it stands... I cannot get all the Ecowitt sensor data from WSView app once I leave my network.

If they defaulted to ecowitt.net as the default landing page.... Iíd have all my sensor data when outside of my home.... and Iíd stay within the Ecowitt ecosystem.

Yes I can use the website.... just wondering why they donít invest in the app.
I assume they want to sell more display consoles...... and I certainly may get one.... but I still want a better app experience.

Itís just my thoughts as a new Ecowitt customer.

All fair comments!

I would encourage you to post on Ecowitt's forum pages at www.ecowitt.com or on their Facebook pages.
They do read those posts and respond.

I agree about this for iOS.

It makes it pointless for me to add more sensors that require you to use a web browser to see when you are off your home network.

My AcuRite does a pretty good job of this as you can check every sensor via their iOS app. Due to this I only add non-critical sensors to my Ecowitt system and use AcuRite for more important sensors.

I second this. I asked Ecowitt and they basically told me to create a short cut on my phone to ecowitt.net.

There is a guy from Poland who has made an app and it can read what WU does and more local sensors. Its an app, that you can install and you'll have to add the ecowitt server information and the keys. Its a good start. Sorry, the name escapes me.

Thereís many apps that display WU data including WUís own app and the Ecowitt app landing page is WU data.

Unfortunately these apps donít let you pull the indoor sensors or air quality and lightning.

I would like the Ecowitt.net data in an iOS app.
Not too much to ask for.

Is the Ecowitt.net web data exportable?
We Need a smart cookie to create a 3rd part app that takes your login details... scrubs or exports the data and formats it.  Unfortunately thatís not me.

A better solution would be for Ecowitt to provide an open API to interrogate/export data rather than just upload it. Even if that was a small subscription service to pay for their server load (vs. "free" forever i.e. included in the purchase price of hardware). Some services like that have tiers e.g. so many API calls for free/month, then few $ etc. Trying to scrape the Ecowitt.net interface is a horrible thought. As an ex-techie I would have a go myself but have knowledge stale enough and time scarce enough to be dangerous if I tried :-).
