Nice.

I am a little discouraged that Ecowitt.net requires the use of their own web cam. Understandable from a lot of perspectives.

Their are alternative ways, but not supported on most weather sites. (which I think is a shame, oh and try to get a web cam working on WU)

That is a good question.

Best I can tell is that there is a cost of business associated with a weather network accepting webcam data. A free public network such as WU can absorb the cost of added bandwidth and storage by charging for the data usage to their clients. But a private manufacturer weather network such as Ecowitt.net finds itself in the predicament of how to provide webcam service when they aren't monetizing the data. The solution for the manufacturer's weather network to exist comes from the sale of weather stations. But the added cost of webcam support seems to have been decided to be solved by also selling the webcam itself in order for the station owner to have a webcam image be displayed on their weather station dashboard for the online service.

This to me seems like an unfortunate decision. Many of us already have a webcam image that we can share to the many online services. Needing a proprietary webcam in order to have an image on the manufacturer's service seems unnecessary. Besides the public is not going to Ecowitt.net when it requires a free account creation.

However obvious it may have seemed that the decision for a manufacturer to provide webcam image was to require the proprietary webcam sale, is not true in every case. Take for instance Ambientweather.net that has recently said that they will provide webcam support and that it will not require proprietary webcam nor a direct webcam sale. Meaning anyone will be able to add their existing Webcam to the service. It seems like they can justify the added expense by considering the added cost as part of the value add equation to their customers. Also Ambientweather.net is accessible without a login, granted some features are limited when you don't log in.

Hi, Galfert. You made a perfectly reasonable point regarding the usage of this camera. To clarify first, this camera is only capable of taking pictures, no steam video. The camera shoot a picture once very 5 minutes, and this is to minimize the load to their server.   I think the purpose of this camera is more for storing the image like weather or the growth of corps on a farm.  With the help of AI processing capability, it can be used for analyzing software to judge the status of plants growth or any other interested topics behind.

So weather camera is a by product usage.

No body know how this product will be end up with in future. So this is a test-idea product at this stage.

Hello everyone, I am resuming this post because I also received the weather webcam for outdoor testing by ecowitt.

 I don't elaborate much on what @mauro63 wrote before me, little has changed compared to that webcam.  I make a list only of the screws and components that are sent with the external version webcam:
 n.  1 support bracket to support webcam, battery pack and solar panel, and relative screws;
 n.  2 bolts and relative nuts to support the battery pack;
 n.  1 bolt for fixing the webcam:
 n.  3 screws to hold the solar panel;
 n.  1 metal clamp to support everything;
 n.  1 webcam;
 n.  1 solar panel;
 n.  1 battery pack;
 n.  1 extension cable with USB output.

 Place photos of the material contained in the box and especially the new bracket.

 I can also report that the new alleged name of the webcam will be HP10.
 There will be 2 configurations, one for indoor and one for outdoor.
 The configuration procedure will be performed via a new special icon that will appear in the ws view app.

 I also place the link of the webcam so that you too can follow it: https://www.ecowitt.net/home/index2?id=37746

Very nice.  Can you provide details on camera+software you used ?

FWIW - if it's any camera that 'phones home' to China or Texas or anywhere else, I will never buy one.   Any camera that requires any connection outside my LAN is not a product I'll ever even try.   I'm unhappy enough about the gw1000 requiring periodic watchdog timer pings to China.  Like really unhappy.

How are those timelapses working? Does the camera automatically start recording at sunrise and stop at sunset? They seem quite short?!

Hi, the webcam takes pictures every 5-10-15-20-25 minutes, you can choose how often to take pictures.  The photos are also taken from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.  They are then automatically converted into a TIME LAPSE lasting + -11 seconds.

Also if you take photos manually (via the ws view app or via the button) on the webcam, these photos are also added in the TIME LAPSE.

Ivan13, thank you very much for the insightful pictures!

Is the upload path for the camera hardcoded or is there also a custom server option to send the images to another location?
The HP10 is surely also configured via WS View, right?
Can you maybe take a few screenshots of the corresponding configuration page?
Thanks!

Oliver

At the time of configuration, the webcam can only be connected to ecowitt.net, I have already proposed and also others have proposed to ecowitt the possibility of being able to connect the webcam to other sites as well as to the ecowitt one.

Yes, that is good news
I've been following this thread, and the Italian ones!
Am I right in thinking this webcam works over wi-fi and directly to ecowitt.net? It's standalone with solar power/battery backup ?

I don't know much about the API but is it likely that webcam images might be accessible via the API?

The wish to be able to send the images via custom server was brought to Ecowitt's attention. What has become of it, I do not know.
The last reports about the HP10 are quite old. In this respect, there may have been some changes to the firmware in the meantime.
I am curious.

At least in the API description I have, there are no references to this.
But the camera will send the data completely independently of a console. In this respect, there will be a separate API solution (if at all).
