Well, it had to happen eventually.  Hopefully it will be short lived:

"Area Forecast Discussion
National Weather Service Paducah KY
551 AM CST Wed Jan 15 2020

The main story Sat night through early next week will be cold
weather. An arctic surface high with a central pressure around 1045
mb will move across the northern Plains Monday. This high will
funnel some of the coldest air so far this season into our area. The
nbm has finally come into better agreement with the colder gfs and
ecmwf mos temps, but it may still be too warm. Temps on Sunday
through Tuesday will stay mainly below freezing all day, and
overnight lows will be in the teens. "

They called for 51 today.  It's currently 61 and rising.

Will it get as cold as predicted?  Colder?  We'll see in a few days.

This morning, this is what we have:

What's the point of a 7 day forecast when they can't even get 3 days right?

So, for a few days, they had those kinds of graphics up along with Hydrologic Outlooks and other items.  This morning I noticed the Hydro shading on the local mapping was gone.  Got to the AFD and see this:

"For the period from today through Tuesday morning, total QPF will
range from one half inch in southeast missouri and southern Illinois
to close to an inch along the west Kentucky/northwest Tennessee
border. Given the lower QPF and reduced soil moistures, this should
preclude any further consideration for potential flooding concerns
early in the week."

At this point I'm guessing we'll see between nothing and 6 inches, but no one seems to know for sure.

Can we hope that the severe was a quick shot and won't be repeated?

Nobody needs that.
