Register a PWS Broken
« on: July 14, 2019, 07:02:12 PM »
I am trying to register my PWS on the website.  It keeps on failing at the "Tell Us More About Your Device" stage.  I input the correct information and hit, Accept the terms and try clicking 'Next'.  The 'Next' button spins without error and I cannot get further.  I tried this with Opera/ Sarari/ Firefox and IE - same result.  Any thoughts to what could be broken?

Yes.  The entirety of Weather Underground is broken.

Best advice is to try again later.

Only thing I can see is that the PWS is 625 feet above the ground. Is it on a tower?

Good point on the 'above ground', but the field being empty or exaggerated does not change the submission result.  Thinking about putting in that size tower for my HOA ;)
Thank you for your replies.  I too believe it's a WU issue.

This may not be the problem you're having, but about a month ago I had the same problem with the final page just spinning when I clicked 'next' and the issue turned out to be that the broken part was manually entering latitude and longitude on the screen where you specify your PWS location.  If I typed in the lat/lon manually, I had the exact same behavior.  If I typed in a street address into that field and then selected the auto-filled location that popped up below it, I was able to create a station.  It also worked if I used the (terrible because of lack of detail) map widget on the right hand side of that screen.

WU should be considering this a known problem (I was on the phone with them at the time, and emailed numerous screenshots during the process, and let them know that it worked when I did it the way I described above) but I am not sure if they are working on it.

One piece of evidence that may show if you are having the same problem I did is if, while using Google Chrome to attempt to add a PWS, you press the F12 key to bring up the developer side panel and then click on the 'Console' tab in that panel.  When the error happened, I could see a red error displayed in the javascript console tab in the sidebar.  Have that side panel up then go through the steps to add your PWS.  With a manually-entered lat/lon, the step 2 page javascript threw an error that prevented the PWS registration from completing.  Without manually entering lat/lon, no error appeared, and the registration succeeded.

Another thing I noticed during these numerous attempts was that on the step 2 screen after manually entering lat/lon the list of fields below (altitude, neighborhood, lat/lon) did not fully populate, some fields were left blank. When I entered a street address and clicked the auto-fill, those fields below were all fully populated.

Then again the whole thing could just be broken at the moment.

Good ideas posted, but after trying the suggestions I still had the same results.  I finally deleted the account at WU and created a new one with another email address.  This time the process of adding a PWS was flawless.  Apparently there was a problem with the account.  Many thanks to those members that read the post and offered advise.
