Testing Hongyuv disdrometer 24GHz
« on: January 08, 2019, 05:20:06 AM »
Hi all,
I have just installed one of the disdrometers (rain sensor) from http://www.hongyuv.com/en/

The sensor has been configured inside a professional weather station.

You can see data here: http://www.kwos.org/apogee/

Is there someone else that is using hongyuv products?

This very device is on my radar (pun intended) as a future purchase, since I have already amassed haptic, tipping buckets, and manual rain gauge cylinders in my weather station collection.....
WU Gold Stars for everyone!

Keep in mind that it uses RS-232, or RS-485 and you can choose protocols ASCII, MODBUS, NMEA
I'm using RS-232 with ASCII. If you're able to develop a simple program that uses the serial port, it's OK.
At the moment is under test and I'm comparing it with one manual rain gauge and one tipping bucket rain gauge.

Thats very interesting, thanks for sharing. I had a look at the Honguv website but no prices are listed, I'm curious where you purchased from? - I'm also in Europe (Ireland).

I purchased it on Alibaba.

Hongyuv also sells complete weather stations and ultrasonic anemometers that I own.
Another interesting equipment is the visibilimeter that I would like to buy in the future.

I'm comparing this disdrometer with two tipping bucket rain gauge, one is the Davis, the second one is a double layer tipping bucket with higher resolution.

Pay attention, in the first comparison tests seems that the numbers coming out of the distrometers must be divided by 10.

Example:

Davis: 2.2 mm
SL3: 2.6 mm
HongYuv rain radar: 25.6 / 10 = 2.56 mm
