6544 Question
« on: June 24, 2018, 01:12:43 PM »
I am trying to resurrect a 6544 alarm output for a project and I don't see in Weatherlink 6.0.3 where to set it up. Is there a separate alarm module DLL I need to install?

Have a look for C:\Weatherlink\Support\Utilities\StreamingDataUtility.exe

OK - when I double click on the highlighted file you specified I get the resultant text box. There is nothing in Weatlerlink Com Port setup that refers to data logger  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]  [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

OK I think you meant this folder. I do get a setup but it can't find the data logger set to the same port as the Envoy

It's a few years since I installed one of these myself, but isn't it the case that the utility and WL itself cannot both access the serial port at the same time. Also, I don't know which version of WL you have installed but it looks like it might be reasonably old one - might be worth updating (this won't solve the sharing collision but it's obviously good to be using the latest version).

So I'd suggest a couple of things:

1. Have a look at the streaming logger text file that explains how to configure the logger;

2. Close WL before trying again to use the utility.

Out of curiosity, what sort of alarm triggering are you trying to accomplish?

Yea - no joy. Using WL 6.0.4 and I did close WL before trying the DL Setup.

I'm trying to set up control of evaporative coolers and motorized windows.

Doesn't the StreamingData utility only apply to the APRS loggers?

No, it applies to all streaming loggers AFAIK. From the 6544 instructions:

Running the Configuration Software
To run the configuration software, double-click on the Streaming Data Utility
icon in the Streaming Data Utility directory of the WeatherLink directory or
select the Streaming Data Utility from the Start Menu under the WeatherLink
directory.

Hmm, that should work.

I'm wondering if the logger might have been discarded for a reason? Does it still work OK as a standard logger?

Just for completeness, is this connected to a PC using a physical serial port or a USB adapter. If USB, can you confirm from eg Device Manager that the virtual com port was definitely released. If USB, maybe try rebooting the PC without logger attached, then connect the logger and then try the Streaming Utility without first starting WL. I think the SU's job is just to set parameters in the logger. Once this is done then further SU connection is unnecessary.
