I have been into weather for a long time. My Dad took me to a couple of U.S. Weather Bureau stations when I was young. Yes, it was the "Weather Bureau" back then, not "National Weather Service". The photo is me standing in front of the weather instrument tower in Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan. The date was 1967 (I was 14 years old at the time).
As I recall, I walked away with an armful of weather facsimiles. The meteorologists were very helpful and seemed to encourage my interest. I also paid a visit to the Detroit station at DTW airport, but I don't have any mementos of the occasion.
I wound up going into Engineering instead of pursuing Meteorology, but my interest has always remained high especially in weather instruments.
If anyone knows what the antique wind vanes and anemometers are (old timers?) I would be interested in knowing what they were. That goes for the rain gauge too.
