I am using a Mac and WeatherCat software.  I do not see any Mac software that is supported by the template.  Is there any Mac native weather software supported by the template?

Hi,
probably not, I dont know, no-one has ever asked about this and I dont have any Apple device myself. I dont actually know what programs are used for Mac. If you tell me which ones I could have a look and see if it would be possible to create a script for it (and I would of course need someone to then provide me the log files to see their format).

I am using WeatherCat software.

http://wiki.trixology.com/index.php/WeatherCat_Webtags_with_Cumulus_Equivalents

Saratoga and Leuven scripts support WeatherCat.  I have attached the link that shows the cross walk to Cumulus which I believe you support.

OK, what I need is a sample of the text file that is produced that contains the current conditions and the field descriptions so that I can make a script to extract them. And also a list of the possible units for the various parameters to make sure all possibilities are included.

Looking at the parameters it can generate it looks like it should be possible to use, but Meteotemplate does not use the testTags, I need some sort of a log file regularly uploaded to the server, something like clientraw (WD) or realtime (Cumulus)

Is similar file being uploaded periodically to your server at ideally like minutely intervals? If yes then it probably shouldnt be a problem.

Yes that will probably be even easier, but as long as such file is being uploaded periodically (and ideally as often as possible) then I can simply create a script that will work with that particular text file format. This second one would probably be easier to work with, but both would do.

The second one I set to upload every 30 seconds.

I believe it does and I looked at it and it requires running something called mono from Microsoft and best I can tell you have to start the program from the command line.  I am already familiar with WeatherCat and it is a native Mac app.  I have been running weather display on my windows machine but had a Mac Mini doing nothing so decided to dedicate it to weather stuff.

OK, last question. Those files are built-in WeatherCat? What I mean is, can any user of this SW easily re-create this exact format? Or did you somehow have to create it yourself? And does WC automatically upload this to the server? What I need to know is whether the generation of this file and its upload to personal FTP is somehow built-in to WeatherCat so that anyone can then easily do it and use it with Meteotemplate

It is built into WeatherCat.  In the programs preference settings you set up the FTP address for your server and upload frequency and the program does the rest.

OK and that goes for both files? You can choose which one of those two you posted you want to generate? (i.e. can I choose the one that I like more?)

I never used MX, even when I still used windows, as far as I know, the MX version does not support 32-bit systems and cannot be installed on Windows XP. I do have some experience with Weather Display and the "normal Cumulus", just while I was developing stuff for it, never used it for my own station, but I must say that I prefer WD much more in terms of what it can do, the overall user experience, installation etc. so if I wanted to use some SW with my station (which is currently not possible because I cannot have my PC on 24/7, which is why I use Meteobridge), then I would definitely go with WD.
And I looked at some screenshots of WeatherCat and I can understand why someone might prefer using it.

« Reply #4041 on: September 13, 2016, 08:20:26 PM »
Hi guys,

I have just published a new issue of the newsletter, which includes information about recent new plugins and blocks and updates.

Newsletter: http://meteotemplate.com/blog/?p=1080

Plugin Update - Solar System 2.0

In addition I have also updated the Solar System plugin, because it turned out the visualization is not displaying correctly across all browsers, so I replaced it with a different one. To update just replace all the files. It will unfortunately not work 100% correct in older versions of IE. Hopefully not many users use this outdated and IMHO very bad browser. It works fine in Chrome, FF, Opera, Safari and I do not have the possibility to check in Edge (because unlike all other browsers, it only works on Windows, in this case even just Windows 10).

DEMO: http://www.meteotemplate.com/template/plugins/solarSystem/index.php

Enjoy

Another great job!  All updated and working smoothly.  Love to see the animation :)

Yes.  You tell the program to generate the realtime.wc.txt file and to FTP it at some interval and you tell it to generate the tags.wc.txt file and FTP it at some interval.

OK and that goes for both files? You can choose which one of those two you posted you want to generate? (i.e. can I choose the one that I like more?)

I prefer WD as well but WD on the Mac is not so good.  If I were using Windows, which I did for a long time, it would be an easy choice for WD.

If you were to run Fusion or Parallels on the Mac Mini it would opens a few more options.
I had no choice but to use Fusion on my Mac because there was no Mac development tool for PIC controllers.
Just a thought.

I don't know about CumulusMX on 32-bit and think correct on not running in XP.  However the output from CumulusMX such as realtime.txt is identical as in Cumulus 1, in fact all the data files are fully interchangeable between both versions, back and forth... regardless which OS CumulusMX is being used with.

Hi Jachym,
Just a friendly heads up, on the Meteotemplate/AustralianWarnings script it works perfect for general warnings for every State in Aus, however for all "Severe Weather Warning 1" (High Level 1) Warnings for all States it does not.
Reason being they wrongly in my opinion use a different format for "Severe Weather Warning 1" .
Currently your dataloader looks for div.product (sadly this does not exist in the "Severe Weather Warning 1" html pages) so results in nil being returned for High Level 1..
Normal Warning : http://www.bom.gov.au/tas/warnings/marinewind.shtml
Severe Warning : http://www.bom.gov.au/cgi-bin/wrap_fwo.pl?IDT20032.html
RSS: excert for the level one.

Hi Tony,
thanks for letting me know. It is not really "wrong", but inconsistent, which obviously is a problem. I will look into it once Im finished with a few other things Im working on right now, I will put it on my to-do list.

Yes you are right about that indeed. I was just suggesting that in my opinion WD is a far better SW and from the screenshots, WeatherCat also seemed more attractive to me than Cumulus, so I understand why Tom wants to stick to it. As I said, Im not suggesting Cumulus is a bad piece of SW, definitely not, but in my opinion if I were to choose one, I dont see a single advantage of Cumulus over WD, well maybe that it is simpler meaning for people that dont need that much stats and features WD can offer, but thats exactly what I like about WD :D And I guess you too Paul :D
