Seems to be working fine now other than that strange problem we discussed offline.

I'm using many menuBlocks now and it is the way to go.  Once you get the hang of it you can group things together and makes load quicker and can fit everything without having so a long page.  Nice idea Jachym to move it in that direction and it gives us more flexibility customizing the site.

Thanks!   =D> =D> =D>

I was waiting for someone to do it first, so I could see it in action. Thank you for that!  :grin:
Looks interesting - so essentially, you can show more block info without having a huge page of separate blocks?

Yes :)

And block-lovers like Paul from Komoka can now have all the over 70 blocks on their homepage without it having over 20MB and allowing me to view his site at home on my laptop, where 1GB RAM just cant cope currently :D

Yes.  Technically you can have one menuBlock with every block availble listed under it.

haha

In all seriousness, that addition to meteotemplate is probably the best yet! In my opinion of course..  ;)

I do really like the menublock idea, but I do have a small gripe with it.

Here's some pictures to try and illustrate what I mean:

 [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

 [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]   [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

The burger menu pushes down the items/text, leaving an empty space above it.

Hi,

yes Tina, this was necessary, because some blocks have icon in the top-left corner, which would otherwise overlap.

One other thing I forgot to mention:

If you are hesitating with the update, or simply want to leave it for later, the new menu.php script will work fine even in all older versions of Meteotemplate and automatically update the menu.

I am only part way on getting to v7 :oops:   Followed steps 1 through 13.  In step 15 of the update instructions, I don't have "Station Warnings" listed.

What did I miss, or do wrong?

Paul you need to replace the setup.php and createConfig and then open setup in your browser and you should have a section for station warnings there

Jachym,
Well, I'm finally going to do it this weekend, so I'm on my way to 7
Remember that I'm on 5 now.

My plan is to upload 7 as a fresh upload.
Use the settings for where my MySQL files are and permissions to access.
Make sure the Weather Display upload of the data are still pointed to correctly for the updates (I don't think any of the two above things would change.
Do the settings setup which wasn't in 5, to make sure all the station settings are correct.
Start 7 in it's own space on the server to make sure all is set up well and tweak the positions of the blocks.
Point to 7 when I get it all going alright.

Do you see anything wrong with this plan, to do a fresh install without having to fiddle around with the database, which sort of scares me.

Dale

PS, I think that your published intention to bring Meteotemplate up to what your initial vision was is perfect.

I'm sure some very minor new things will come to someone's mind, but so much of what you already offer is above and beyond what I'll implement that to wait awhile for you to carefully and thoughtfully modify your program is well worth the wait.

Thanks Jachym,
I actually had forgotten about setup and was looking in the admin section :oops: (I did go to the wiki and must have missed it there as well, double :oops: :oops: )

Now onto menu blocks...

Hi Dale,
yes, you can migrate your config. The setup.php is smart enough to import whatever is already specified in config, so you will only need to specify the new paramters, which will load with default values. Let me know if there are any problems.

Have you copied the set up at the top of your original indexDesktop? In the instructions I said to copy your homepage block configuration, paste it in the new indexDesktop and then upload it, you probably just uploaded the default file in the update package, in which case you will need to set up your blocks again, though it hopefully shouldnt take you very long and then delete that "Your template..." directly in the HTML of indexDesktop.

Yes I did that put this in
Code: [Select]
$theme = "dark";
$morningSwitch = 7; // if you selected "variable" above, then here you specify the hour in the morning for the switch. If you used any other option, you can ignore this parameter. The number should be given in the 24h format - in other words a number from 0 to 23
$eveningSwitch = 19; // if you selected "variable" above, then here you specify the hour in the evening for the switch back to dark theme. If you used any other option, you can ignore this parameter. The number should be given in the 24h format - in other words a number from 0 to 23

$blockColor = $design; // choose whether you want the blocks to have color1 or color2 of your design combination for the template. For color 1 use "design", for color 2 use "design2"
$blockRadius = 1; // The following parameter sets the "roundedness" (border-radius) of the blocks. You can specify the number of pixels for the radius. 0 means the borders will not be rounded at all, the higher the number, the more rounded the block borders will be.
############################################################################

# BLOCKS - see documentation at http://www.meteotemplate.com/web/wiki/wikiHomepage.php

$columnWidths = array(25,50,25);
$column1 = array("stationData","rssFeed","dynamicText","info","location","images","partnerStations","history");
$column2 = array("current","gauges","interactiveGraph","forecast","meteogram","radarEU","summary");
$column3 = array("text","riset","moonPhase","dynamicImage","map","nasaImg","uvForecast");

############################################################################

The
Code: [Select]
$menus = 0; was not in the oldindex.php I think I setup  all from scractch ( seems my station is broken too  ](*,))

Hi,
copy the blocks part and paste it into the new indexDesktop, there are many new functions below it, so you need to use the new file and only copy your block setup

Ok, let me just explain again, try that and if that doesnt help, send me a link to your homepage

1. Take your original indexDesktop.php
2. Open it and copy the lines with the blocks (ie. the column1=......  and all the other columns.
3. Open indexDesktop.php from the update package
4. Paste the column1,..... settings in this new indexDesktop
5. In the new indexDesktop.php with the pasted text, scroll down and delete the "Your template is now ready..." line
6. Overwrite your original indexDesktop.php in the root folder of your template

The demo works fine, are you sure you have all the pages uploaded for that plugin and correct permissions? The scripts are the same so I see no reason why one would work and not the other one. There are sometimes problems when GD is not installed on the server, but that obviously isnt the case since then no images would work.

Jachym,

  Thanks for 7.0.  I really love the menuBlock feature.  I have used it in several of the blocks.
