No Paul, you are specifically one that always follows the instructions very carefuly and I would say "the ideal user".

The only problem in your case is really your server. It sometimes behaves ..... well.... strangely :D
But so far I think almost always we were able to find a solution relatively quick

ok I went through the directions twice and I must have still missed something. I have updated my website template at http://www.desotowiwx.com/template/. But on the live gauges page I got a error
Fatal error: Call to undefined function number_formatround() in /*****/*****/*******l/template/pages/station/live.php on line 47 (I removed parts of the url of the error because I was not sure if that would hurt my server showing that to the world)

anyway I found out that if I took line 47 from the old live.php and put it in the new live.php it did not give the error anymore.

My question is in doing that now did I mess something else up? or is it ok till the next great update?
Thank you for a great website template. and for having the patience for all my questions.    :oops:

I am going to see if I missed anything back in the wiki....

.... but sometimes I am surprised myself what people are "able" to do :D I can show you printscreen of my Gmail today :D... or I cant actually because it shows max 50 emails/page :D

But Im glad people like it, so I dont mind :-)

From someone who has been working in the IT field since before the iron curtain fell, may I suggest finding a way to package the template into something that can easily be deployed via cpanel or some other common web-hosting site management tool?  How about setting up a hosting deal for people looking for a turn-key solution with direct support?  At least you could make a few euros selling the hosting service.....

Ok, I got a question that someone OTHER THAN JACHYM might be able to answer (he's running on too little sleep and a busy couple days answering emails, so I'm hoping he doesn't get so buried in stuff that he won't improve to version 6, kumquat, eventually because he knows what will happen.

Anyway, is Google Analytics a subscription tool you have to pay to get data back on site visits, or do they offer those items for free?

Dale

PS, I'm not sure if version 6.0 is kumquat or not, I'm just running out of fruits to pick from.

Thanks.  One more thing to look into after I get Kiwi running.  I have a running system right now and while everyone for the most part is very happy, knowing my luck and foggy brain this evening I don't want to jinx it.

Jachym,
I hope you were smiling when you read kumquat...

Since he's already chosen Kiwi's successor's name, we should have a contest to gues what he'll name it.  We know previous version's fruit names are out, as well as kumquat, so after the dust settles, we can all guess.

Too many emails of importance right now to fool around, though.

Hi Jachym,
I have updated my site to 5.0 and once again I am very impressed with your work. Superb!
However it must be very difficult for you to develop for the mobile platform when you have no access to mobiles - let alone 3 or 4 different ones!
Why don't we assist you in funding a month or two of use of one of the emulator websites like https://www.browserstack.com. This provides a huge range of options for you.
I am happy to denote $30 (to buy you a month) if it would significantly help you.
Just a thought.

Hi Justin,
thanks a lot for your offer. The problem is that these emulators are not always 100% accurate. There are even free ones, which I used, but the best way really is probably the way I did it until now - help from other users and testing.
You have also pinpointed the problem - take the number of screen sizes, take the number of mobile OS and the number of third-party browsers. Multiply all those numbers together.... What works on one might not work on a different one.
I can work on it further of course and try to find the best compromise, but it will take time :-)
It would also not be ideal if it was subscription based because to be quite honest - I have a full-time job, a part-time job, which unfortunately I cannot skip to get by and then I also currently do external PhD study. This all means Meteotemplate is a night time hobby and that there are times when I have more free time and times when it gets quite hectic at work and so I never know in advance whether that particular day/week/month I will have more or less time for this.
So once again, I really appreciate your offer, but I don´t think investing in this would be very helpful. I do not believe this is significantly better than the free alternatives, still wont be 100% accurate and also put me in a sort of time stress because I would need to work on it while the subscription is active.

I understand.
I have an Android LG G4 (5.5" screen) running Marshmallow (6.0) if you ever need me to do any testing.
I also have a 5.5" Windows Phone (work phone).

Yes, well the best thing to do is in case you find some problem, make a screenshot and email it to me and I will see what I can do. Sometimes it is also the case that things seem to work, but not for all, because it is related to particular sites.

What I mean... I will give a specific example.

So one of the pages looked quite good to me, but when I sent it to Tom, his page was all over the place. It turned out that it was because on my page, I have my city set to "Brno" - which is quite short. Whereas Tom´s was quite the opposite - very long four-word name and that overflew the div and it all got very disorganized. It is difficult to sometimes take into account all the possible scenarios and the only way of solving these is by testing.

Since the release of Kiwi two days ago I have already discovered few new problems, or I was emailed about it by other users, and I made a slight change in the way bugs will be fixed in the future. I am a bit busy right now, but I will post about this later today.

Meteotemplate - Block updates + very important info about bug fixes
« Reply #2294 on: March 30, 2016, 10:26:35 AM »
Hi guys,

I would like to inform you about a major change in the way bug fixes are released. As with many other things (translations, homepage etc.) over time I realized things are not ideal the way they were made at the beginning.

The current model of handling bug fixes is one of the things that is not very efficient and I was therefore thinking how this could be changed.

Current mechanism:
When a bug is discovered, I try to fix it and then release it as part of template updates.

Problem:
Sometimes it can be a relatively major bug, in which case a subversion is released. When it is a minor bug, I leave it till the next update. The problem is this – updating the template as such is relatively time consuming and complicated for me. I need to re-compile all the files, upload all the files again to the server, update the Downloads section, update documentation etc etc. With minor updates it is also problematic because often I have the fix ready very quickly, but releasing a new version of the template usually means that fix won´t be available for another few weeks or even months.

Solution – new way of releasing bug fixes
I therefore decided to try a different method. Please read this very carefully because it is very important. There is now a new section on the Downloads page at Meteotemplate.com. If you scroll below the links to update and template main files download, you will see a table and heading “Bug fixes”. The way this will work is as follows – when a bug is discovered, no matter if it is major or minor, I will try to fix it as soon as possible. Then, if I am able to fix it, I will post a link to updated version of this script in the table. This table also contains date, the exact path to the script concerned, instructions how to make the fix and of course a link. This link will download only that particular file.
This means you will be able to download and fix errors relatively quickly, you will not have to download all the other files normally included in the update/main template download file and for me it will also be much easier because I will not have to change the actual download files. Then, when a new version is released, I will take all the updated scripts and include them in the update file, in the main file and delete the bug fixes table. So if you then perform the update, you will have all the current versions of files and then once a new bug is discovered again, it will be again added to the table. To get the latest version and bug fixes you therefore always need to be using the latest template version + have all the files updated that are listed in the bug fixes table.

I hope it makes sense, if you have any questions feel free to ask. I think this will be much more efficient for all. You will get fixes soon and only have to download the problematic files and I will not have to worry about updating all the other files and the wiki.

Please note – this is only related to the actual template files! Plugins and blocks will continue to be updated individually because it is much easier for me to update those and so bug fix in an update or block will be released as a new version/subversion of that particular block/plugin.

There are already several files that I fixed/improved in the bug fixes table.

Last, I have updated four of the blocks, all these updates only include bug fixes, there was an error in one of the conversions for the current block and gauges block when using Weather Display for updates, an updated script for the RSS feed block which prevents a problem when used along with the current block/gauges and last, an update of the riset block, where the pie chart did not scale properly.

With regards to the pie chart, this problem is now in more places all over the template. Some graphs overflow the page. I found that this is caused by an update of the Highcharts script. When I used the older version of Highcharts, it showed fine. Unfortunately this old version caused problems elsewhere, which is why it was updated so I will slowly be updating the current scripts to make them work fine with the new Highcharts script (unfortunately, it is not that easy so it might take some time, but just to let you know I am aware of this).

Hope this makes things more efficient and thanks for support and providing valuable feedback and reporting bugs

Jachym,

Great method on the updates/bug fixes.   One suggestion, could you put the date on the blocks page when a block is updated.  This would make it easier to know when they need to be updated on our sites.  I realize that you mention it on the blog and on this forum, but it would be quick to check the blocks page.

Thanks for all the work,

Read carefully, and updated the four files. :)

Sorry to be a pedant, I only mention it because you've fixed the rounding of numbers for rainfall on a couple of things..

The rainfall in the 'weather station' menu.

Hi Tina,

you are not pedant, you are a perfectionist - like me... so here is a fix :)

The problem is that this affects the menu.php which is something each one of you customized, so I do not want to release this as a new script, in the next version I will, but not right now as a bug fix, because people might accidentaly reset their menu to default.

To solve this, open your menu.php in the template root folder and find this section (somewhere around line 30):
Code: [Select]
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($a)){
$lastDB = strtotime($row['DateTime']);
$currentT = convertT($row['T']);
$currentR = convertR($row['R']);
}

replace it with this:
Code: [Select]
while($row = mysqli_fetch_array($a)){
$lastDB = strtotime($row['DateTime']);
$currentT = convertT($row['T']);
if($displayRainUnits=="mm"){
$currentR = number_format(convertR($row['R']),1,".","");
}
else{
$currentR = number_format(convertR($row['R']),2,".","");
}
}
