West coast/SIERRA thunderstorms predicted for today...
« on: June 02, 2014, 12:38:14 PM »
Heads-up! It looks like we may get a few TS's today here is the western US. The NWS forecast is as follows:

Quote
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION...CORRECTED
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RENO NV
210 AM PDT MON JUN 2 2014

CORRECTED SYNOPSIS

.SYNOPSIS...
A LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL MOVE THROUGH TODAY WITH GUSTY WINDS AND
ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS. AS THE LOW EXITS TUESDAY A FEW MORE
STORMS ARE POSSIBLE NEAR THE OREGON BORDER. DRY AND WARM
CONDITIONS WILL PERSIST FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK.
.SHORT TERM...
FEW CHANGES MADE IN THE SHORT TERM WITH THE UPPER LOW MOVING
ACROSS THE SIERRA AND WESTERN NEVADA TODAY. MODELS CONTINUE TO
SHOW BEST INSTABILITY ALONG AND EAST OF HIGHWAY 395 TODAY. THIS
MAKE SENSE GIVEN THE DECENT SURFACE LOW OVER CENTRAL NEVADA AND
THE EXPECTED ZEPHYR TODAY. CONSIDERED PULLING THUNDERSTORMS FROM
THE TAHOE BASIN AS THEY RARELY SEE ANY STORMS IN THIS PATTERN EVEN
WHEN MOISTURE IS BETTER. HOWEVER, THERE COULD BE AN ISOLATED STORM
EARLY THIS AFTERNOON BEFORE THE ZEPHYR FULLY DEVELOPS. STILL
BELIEVE THE BEST CHANCES WILL BE EAST OF HIGHWAY 395 AND NORTH OF
HIGHWAY 50, ALTHOUGH STILL THINK IT WILL BE MORE ISOLATED.

However, there is NOT one single cloud to be seen anywhere at the moment. We have bright sunshine, dead calm winds and temp currently at 70F. Weather can change very rapidly here on the SIERRA front so it will be interesting to see how things develop today.
