AS3595 Embedded Adventures Detector issues
« on: March 22, 2014, 06:14:19 AM »
Hi Guys,

I was given an AS3595 recently, have it hooked up correctly (I think), but I am not detecting lightning at all. I just had a thundershower/storm come through about an hour ago and it did not pick up ANY lightning. It saw all of the flashes/strikes as disturbers. I had many flashes/strikes within the 40KM range of the detector. My settings are:

Tune CAP:               Auto
Noise Floor:             630/45
Noise Auto Raise:     Checked
Outdoor:                Unchecked
Ignore Disturber:      Unchecked
Signal Threshold:      1
Spike Rejection:       1
Min. No. of lightning: 1

Connections from the AS3595 to the Discovery Board:

VCC: +3V
IRQ: PC15
SCL: PB6
SDA: PB9
GND; GND

I2C: 50000Hz

Any ideas?

John, is your 12C address set to "0X3"? I have ignore disturbers checked, noise at 390/28 and the Tuned cap at 6, that was on the anti static bag the unit came in.

I hope this is of some assistance.

Hi Joe,

I2C is set 0x3, but I had forgotten about the Tune being on the bag. It was 6, too. Thanks for that.  We'll see if that works.
