atom-top-warning.php - Where to find it?
« on: September 03, 2012, 06:12:16 AM »
Hi there,

Where do I find the atom-top-warning.php page and it's contents? Plus, does it work with wxadvisory in the U.K?

Thanks

Will

You can find it on Ken's site but it only works with the NWS.

Hi there,

What? Only works with NWS why? It says it uses wxadvisory.php. So does not work in UK then? How stupid.

Does the word Stupid mean the same in the UK as it does in the US? If so, then your comments are way out of line when making reference to one of the strongest contributors to the global weather enthusiast community, who also is the administrator of this forum.

How rude.

Pardon?

How the? I am not being rude! I'm saying that it's a bit wrong that in the U.K. it won't work. I am not aiming this at Ken.

Hi Will,

Your comment struck me the wrong way. I am pleased to hear you meant no harm by it.

BTW, your site looks nice.

Paul

Hi Will,

There are three varieties of the AJAX/PHP template sets and it's based on the geography covered.  The USA set (which includes atom-advisory and atom-top-warning and now the nws-alerts scripts) uses the USA National Weather Service (NWS) for data provided from their websites.
The USA NWS only covers the United States (and territories) for watches/warnings/advisories/forecasts, so no, the scripts would not be useful for any website outside of the United States.

Likewise, the World template includes the get-meteoalarm-warning-inc.php script which fetches advisories/warnings from MeteoALARM.eu and is specific for countries inside the European Union .. it, likewise, won't be useful for anybody outside the European Union.  Forecasts are provided by WeatherUnderground and are useful worldwide.

The moral of the story is: the Base templates are region specific -- they include support scripts that are also region specific and those support scripts just aren't useful outside their designated region.

As the Rolling Stones were fond of singing "You can't always get what you want..."

Best regards,
Ken

Hi Ken,

Ah ok, thanks. Can I use my get-meteoalarm-warning.inc script as my warning box?

Thanks

Sadly, No.  Based on an agreement with Meteoalarm.eu (provider of the data used for European Union warnings), we have to present what they provide as-is (see the comments inside the get-meteoalarm-warning-inc.php script), and since I'd made that agreement with them, I'm not at liberty to change it.

I do know that Henkka had developed a script that would do what you want http://www.nordicweather.net/downloads/meteoalarm.zip
However, it may take a lot of effort and PHP expertise to have it work on your site.
This thread on Weather-Watch.com (WD forum) shows the evolution of that software.  I suggest you not be too quick in trying to adopt it for your site, and generally, questions regarding it won't be answered here -- you are on your own to adapt and support it.

Hi there,

Ah right, I have succesfully intergrated it though I suppose it only displays a warning when it happens?

Thanks
