So 2 years ago a friend told me about his weather station, I live in a weird area, its on a hill with a cliff, on a point overlooking the ocean. I get crazy weather here. So I finally ordered a WS-2000. You guys have some blame here too. While reading and exploring about the WS-2000, I found out about personal weather websites, and stealing data to do it.  I never even received anything yet and this is like my fifth purchase today.

So I am now waiting on a WS-2000, a GW-1000, a WS-3000X5, a mast/pole and mounting brackets. I have 2 raspberry pies that are new and I also never owned one before, but one is running weewx, belchertown, i have a domain name, and I just can't afford a metro bridge pro right now but for some reason I find it sexy. The second Pi I am working on a webcam stream from, I also have a pi cam on it, I think the webcam will stream and the pi camera I will temporarily use for just photography for now but I do plan on having a total of 4 pi cams on it taking pictures and stitching a 180 degree banner that updates on the website every so often so people can see a full view of the weather from here.

I think I lost my mind. What's wrong with me... Everything has been a tremendous learning curve, I have barely been sleeping and my brain is melting. Why am I doing this to myself??

I have three APC Smart UPSs I've been playing with lately. They have a slot in back for a network/SNMP card. These cards used to be be prohibitively expensive but now are quite cheap on eBay. Now I can easily and completely control and configure them from my armchair and I have them set to gracefully shut down my Pi's in an extended power outage.

Interesting. I thought it was only USB! I have a pretty big UPS on my fish tank here, I wonder if it supports that.

I got a 850VA or something Cyperpower that I will power my router, and 2 or 3 pis with. I got another 450VA APC one for the WS-2000 and GW-1000 consoles. I don't know how I will tell 3 pis to safely shut down, I am hoping I won't have to. I have a generator here so if the power is going to be out for a while I just plug that into the house, start it up, and switch my panel over. I really wish I could figure out how long the 850 UPS will last powering the pis and router. It has to be at least 5 hours.

2 of those pis are going to be in a weather proof box on one of the roof peaks overlooking the ocean, I am hoping I can send 1 cable in to power them both.

I used to be good at this 2 decades ago, but I have not touched linux since 2003. I can tell my poor brain is aging, maybe this will bring some life back into it haha.

Oh, no contest. Trust me when I say you're gonna want it up and running. That's why you have it, especially for severe occurrences. If it breaks, oh well, at least you'll know why.

So it is common to leave them out I guess, I figured some people bring them in. I get winds that shake my house often without a hurricane haha. I would LOVE to actually know how fast the wind is if it is still accurate at those speeds.
