Bluetooth on the WLL
« on: August 07, 2020, 12:40:17 PM »
Why is bluetooth on the weatherlink live? It doesn't show up on my Android phone nor my iPad and my weather is always up to date so why bluetooth?

How did you set up your WLL in the first place without BT? It's the only way to get started AFAIK.

Press the part above the led light for a few seconds. It should turn the Bluetooth back on again

Bluetooth is only used to setup the wll and get it joined to WiFi network.

Great! It flashes constantly and I wasn't sure if it's supposed to or not but since I get my live data updates I guess everything is working fine then.

The blue light does flash when Bluetooth isn't active. Not all the time, but I haven't figured out what it signifies, and Davis doesn't tell you.

Yes, TBH the instructions need amending slightly to say that if you should ever need to re-establish BT to the WLL unit then you may need to touch the WLL touchpad even if the blue LED is flashing intermittently.

Maybe there is a difference in blue light with different firmware.

What firmware do you guys have at present?

My wll is a week old and still have firmware: May 28, 2019 on it.

My firmware is 2020-06-26, my light does flash a fair amount, and I have taped a bit of cardboard over it!

Just got my new firmware pushed down tonight after raising a ticket with Davis Support.

Not that I see any difference but it would be nice to know what changes there are.

Not that I see any difference but it would be nice to know what changes there are.

Short answer is that I don't know - Davis don't seem to make public any changelog that I'm aware of.

However, AIUI Davis worked hard to make the initial firmware release as bug-free as possible and to minimise the need for subsequent F/W updates. Of course, one or two bugs still escaped and these are being squashed as they're reported/identified. The only recent change I can call to mind is that one or two of the rainfall totals (eg monthly and/or storm) weren't resetting automatically as designed, although a WLL power cycle seemed to fix this as a workaround. Mark may recall another bug that we encountered some months back as well - I've forgotten the details.

Unfortunately, users (and indeed dealers) don't have any way of forcing F/W updates - they have to be pushed by Davis. So F/W is limited to whatever was installed at the factory until Davis choose to push an update, either generally or by individual request.

They don't seem to like telling us what has changed, the only details I know (all related to the local WLL API as I reported them) are...

  • 2020-06-26:
Fix for the 24 hour rain total not showing on some stations
?Fix for slow current conditions update rate for wind gusts? (not reported by me)
  • 2020-04-15:
Fix for wind direction changing to null when avg speed drops to zero
Fix for transmitter disconnection not nulling out sensor values

Did they ever fix the Ethernet port? Mine is broken, no LED indication of life.

WiFi works, so I have been running it all along that way.

I've run mine off the ethernet port OK, and the lights worked, though I'm back on WiFi now (I ran out of ports on my WiFi station).

I've not had a problem with any Ethernet port on a WLL unit either so maybe it was simply a faulty unit?

I have never tried the WiFi, only ethernet since I hooked mine up.

I got a very early one directly from Davis. Probably a defect.

I took a peek inside and the solder around the Ethernet connector looked fine.

I am not sure it is worth the candle to try to get a replacement.

My ethernet lights don't work either. They worked for awhile then they go dark. activity lights come on at the router but not on the WLL. My "hi/lo & totals" for my temp 1 only show dash marks for my leaf station also. its under extra sensors on the app. I was hoping the last firmware update would fix the problems, but no luck....  ](*,)

I just tried connecting an Ethernet cable and I see LEDs on both the switch and the WLL. There is activity.

I tried scanning with Angry IP, but I only see one address. The other "alive" hosts are all accounted for.

I re-scanned after disconnecting the Ethernet cable and still only see the same WeatherLinkLIVE.local address (MAC Vendor is Expressif), so that was the only one showing with the cable connected. I don't know if there is a good WiFi connection if there is a way to change back to Ethernet.

After the disconnect and subsequent re-connect, the LEDs are now off on both the switch and WLL. I looked at the WLL manual and you choose between WiFi and Ethernet. Maybe once you have selected WiFi, you can't go back as long as it is active? I can't see any way to change this. I looked at the app on my phone and I don't see anything there.

The fact that it did seem to be working as far as the activity LEDs are concerned, would indicate that this is a one-shot deal. At least I know that it isn't a hardware problem since it did apparently work while initially connected.

I have not raised a ticket at Davis. I might though to see if there is a way to revert to Ethernet if needed.

Greg H.

You have to configure via Bluetooth for WiFi or LAN, you cannot just plug the cable in if it is configured for WiFi.

No LAN stats that I can recall, for WiFi you only get the RSSI, and there is nothing equivalent for LAN.

You have to configure via Bluetooth for WiFi or LAN, you cannot just plug the cable in if it is configured for WiFi.

I vaguely remember this from the initial setup, now that you mention it.

However, no LEDs are present and it fails the attempt to reconnect to the LAN using the Bluetooth. I did succeed at changing the WiFi to a different AP, though.

Earlier I saw the lights come on, but not again. I even tried a power cycle.

I just sent an email to Davis support about it.
