New Station in CA Desert
« on: December 14, 2020, 02:59:35 PM »
Here are some pictures of a new station in CA desert that I helped install. For now it is just reporting to WU and Ecowitt. Perhaps later as software is expanded it will report to CWOP.
The owner is not a member of the forum.
There isn't much yard....you are looking at it, that is the whole thing, just another similar raised bed to the left off the picture is all, so very limited for installation space.
Very strict HOA, hence the flag...which turns out very nice.

The Station is an Ecowitt GW1002 with additional HP2551 display. Added indoor and outdoor air quality sensors.
The radiation shield for the WH32 is an Ambient SRS100XL.
The anemometer is mounted on a 16 foot Tele-pole telescoping flagpole.
I'll be duplicating this setup with another station in OR next month or so.

Well I said I "helped" install. Meaning I was the technical consultant that designed everything and then just hired local labor to dig hole and pour concrete etc. Used Google Earth 3D for location assessment. Then I walked the owner through technical parts of installing console and then I performed all math for barometer calibration and used a remote computer with NoxPlayer running WS View to configure some minor details and keep remote eye on things. No need to travel across the country to do IT work. I wouldn't want to travel during this pandemic anyway. I wouldn't call anyone required to travel now lucky. But travelling for all kinds of IT work was something that used to be the norm for me before. I do miss it.

I like the flagpole trick! What HOA can say no to the flag?*

Rich K.
(* This is just a rhetorical question. I have no doubt that some HOA somewhere has done it.)

While the setup is great, and I like the flagpole mount (and I’ll keep that in mind), a bit off topic, yes, there have been HOAs that have tried to restrict flags. They’ve all failed (thankfully) when taken to court tho.  As a military retiree, I’m happy that despite how “uppity” an HOA thinks their association is, they can’t overrule law...
