Put this up at the end of the summer this year. (Just "found" the forum this week).
I am using a 1.5" galvanized water pipe for a mast. Going up thru a tight hole in the deck keeps the mast stable, don't need any guy wires. The anemometer is at about 26 feet.
I wanted to use the windmill to mount everything as it is more in the open, but the wife said NO!!!.

That's a great place for the anny but wouldn't the temp/humidity sensor be a little more accurate at about 6ft.

If I could have used the windmill, that's where the unit would be. Just above head height. Sigh!

With the ISS so high up on the pole, it'll help shimmy the pole in stronger wind and most likely cause increasing false tips when raining over time. Not only, you can't see inside the bucket to insure it's clear of debris (i.e. bird crap). Personally, I'd drop the ISS down to maybe a foot or so above the railing and monitor your temp to see that it isn't compromised.

Just curious - why not on the windmill?  Safety, looks, ??
As I'm sure we all experience at some point; no location is perfect.  For me, nearby trees even though annie is on roof top.
I like CW2274 suggestion of lowering the ISS, good for a try anyway.

You should know all the members here put their weather station where they want it! We all are the boss of the house and weather comes first......hold that thought.....My wife just told me to put down the tablet and get the dishes done NOW...be back in a while with more advice!

Another thought, fill the pole with sand and cap the top.  The weight will stop the pole from swaying.  Should stop the false tip issues.

If the pole is in segments, you could put some spray foam at the bottom of where you want the sand to be.  Let it cure for 24 hours.  Then add the sand.  Cap the top off with more spray foam or something to keep the sand dry.

The standard height for air temperature to be recorded is at 4ft (above cropped grass, ideally).

Well it's actually between 1.25 and 2 m per the WMO, and the siting should be over terrain indicative of your surroundings. Not all of us have cropped grass.

Wow. It may be ideal for you, but non-existent for me. Not only, if I had a yard full of cropped grass where I live, I'd still sit my ISS out in the desert because that's what I live in. Get it?
