Unfortunately i sold my Sony a77II. So its all i have to work with for now.
I will see. I figure i have the plenty of lightning to try. As of this post the lightning count on my sensor for the day is 520 and ticking and i know thats actually low. The day is not even half over. What do you find is the most difficult part

I know there are some apps for helping take lightning pictures and night photography. i have to look into but not sure how well they work with the exposure. Seconds is no problem not sure about minutes.

Sorry, you have to work that out on conditions, there is no magic answer :)
It depends on so many things, you can only get there by trying , failing , and work it out

Bottom line, and we should close this out, you need to be set up before the strike, if you are attempting to capture it as it hits, you have already lost. Do need night shots on passing  traffic etc , to get a feel, using tail lights  of the vehicles. Experiment. The variables are large, and the variation of equipment as well, just go try the test shots. I used to do this on film which was expensive, you can get an immediate view of what you are doing now.

Please no more on this, way off topic
