Trying to contact Ecowitt
« on: August 04, 2022, 04:52:11 PM »
I have 4 Ecowitt displays in my house and one Ambient that display the data from my WS-5000.  I bought 3 of the Ecowitt displays at the original time of purchase of the Ambient WS-5000 and added one additional one in February of this year.  Last week I'd noticed that the Feb one I bought hadn't updated in several days and the time was even frozen.  I tried to reboot it by unplugging, but upon plugging it back in it does nothing at all.  No screen to display, no beep like usual upon powering up.  I tried swapping the power supply with a known good one that is operation normally, but it does nothing.  Pressed the reset with a paperclip as well but again, nothing.

I sent an email to Ecowitt (as suggested on the Ecowitt website) complete with my order number for the unit.  It has been a week now and I've not heard anything back.  I sifted through my spam folder just to see if it had filed itself in there, but nothing at all.

Is there another thing I could try to revive the display, or possibly another way to contact Ecowitt that I've missed?  The message was sent to ecowittweather@outlook.com as listed on the warranty page.

Do you happen to have a sd card in the slot?  If so, try removing it.

No, there is not a SD card in the slot.  Thanks for the tip though!  Hoping there was something I had overlooked and I could get it working again.  Teh display is even on an UPS so it's not subject to power flashes or voltage spikes.  It's protected on the same UPS as my computer in my office.

assuming that you have four HP2551 consoles and the Ambient clone, the WS-5000 console ...
did you look up the sensors ID section in the console setup of your "misbehaving" console ?
Setup (gear wheel) --> More [Setup] ---> sensors ID
and checked if any sensors are shown there - and if not, tried to manually initiate the sensor search (select sensor ID field, select "Register" from the choices in the pop-up windows) - and if this doesn't work, look up the sensorID in one of your working consoles and enter it/them into the sensor field (and press "save" !! in the little dialog window - NOT "Register") ?
How to do this, you find in the https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=40730.0 thread, HP2551 console section.

Ah well if its dead dead then you need to hear back from Ecowitt.  They are usually very fast to respond to emails.  Unrelated to this, I have one console working again where the SD card slot was shorted out and didn't beep on power on -- just black screen, hence my asking.  I have my main unit that just recently during a power outage lost the custom names of all the WH31 sensors -- but no other sensors.  That is very weird.

I have an actual Ambient WS-5000 system complete with one Ambient console which shares my data to WU and Ambient.  All my other displays though are the Ecowitt ones and are only connected to my local WiFi for updates and do not upload any data.

The misbehaving console has no display at all.  The screen froze up and I noticed 2 days later (It's in a room I haven't frequented lately) so I unplugged it and it never came back on.  No beep, no lights, no anything.

I did hear back from Ecowitt finally, and after a couple messages back and forth there is a new display on its way to me now.  I asked if they'd like the old non working one back for testing, but they declined as shipping would be too much they said.

it's possible that only the display gave up its ghost. There is a thread here in the forum describing how to exchange the display with a rather cheap display version from e.g. AliExpress (some 35 USD). Might be worth looking into. Might give one more (spare or backup) console. https://www.wxforum.net/index.php?topic=43965.0

It's the newest one I have actually.  The original 3 I bought were just all black, but this one says "Ecowitt" at the top of the frame.  It does nothing at all though.  Once I get the new one I'll package the old one up int he box they sent me the new one in and I'll gladly donate it to your cause.
