Oh goody, another model for the guessers to lean on so they can do less traditional work.

Isn't that all a forecast is. An educated guess?
Unless you put nano sensors at every 1K FT up to the  top of the stratosphere and space them out about every mile or so it's always going to be  guess.
It's a thankless job that gets no credit when it's right and all the blame when it's wrong.

Is any disinterested party looking at the 'accuracy' (I would be interesting to see what improvements this one makes.

Does anyone know if the European Model is code that NOAA is using on our computers to run predictions?  We've all heard that the European model has been more accurate in some situations, so are the meteorologists in Europe running our weather data and generating maps here?  Very nice of them if they are.  Otherwise how do the various models get discussed and posted?

I saw several general news items of a few paragraphs long announcing this.  But were there any more in-depth stories in any of the science blogs etc about how the new model came to being, what was done, who oversaw the project, where the computing is done (maybe distributed) and so on for those of us who might want more information?

Thanks.  Dale
