PWS monitor for Android/iOS
« on: March 24, 2019, 03:08:33 PM »
Hi Guys,
I made this simple PWS monitor for checking PWS data values from my Personal Weather Station. It sends my values only to wunderground site and I'm not able to get APIKEY... Maybe you have same problem. That's why I made this app.

Will be great to send me some ideas for improvement.

I'd like add this features
- more accounts
- more charts
- tablet version
- better weather icon choosing

anything else?

Available for Android and iOS devices

Release an ad-free version and you might get some takers.

I tested it out, but my station is reading 15C and the temp graph is showing close to 60C.

Hello @buffy,
I installed it on Samsung / Android and my two HP1001 and WH2600 stations display flawlessly. It would be good if I could go between these stations. Now I have to delete and re-enter. I miss the temperature and humidity in the room as well as Wind Chill and Heat Index indexes as well as UV in units [microW / cm2]. Such UV has HP1001.

What's the difference between paid and free versions? I am willing to buy a commercial version.

Question: at what stage are the data captured? Is it from WU servers? How many seconds does the application be able to download the current data? I am asking because after refreshing with an icon, new data does not always appear.

Nice little app!

Works great on my Nokia 9 - Android Pie.

I do spot that the temperature is incorrect though. If I refresh it, it goes to 7.6C, if I refresh again, it goes to 7.3C. If I keep refreshing, it keeps switching between those temperatures,  which are both wrong.

I noticed it. However, after a few attempts, it gets the right temperature. Hence my question to @buffy: what period can I download another packet of data? There is a limit here.

Installed paid version on my 4+ year old OnePlus One (Android 6.0.1/CyanogenOS) and it works fine.  Nicely done.

I probably don't need the temp out to two decimals, though. :)

I work on the Samsung Galaxy J7 with Android 8.1.0. I have a question for you. What is the difference between a commercial version and a free version?

Answer: yes, that's right. At the bottom of app there is information about last data update. there are time after refresh (Last reload), actual data time (Sensors updated) and chart data time (PWS data).

I tested app on my PWS and actual data I have every 2-5 min. Chart data every 5-10 min. times may not be the same. All values are from WU servers.

Sometime you can get this issue. If you are too fast WU servers send empty feed and I load last downloaded data from app. If you refresh again, you should get fresh data from WU servers. It's not perfect, but I can try make it better. Thanks for feedback.

I have fresh data in 2-5 minutes. If I try reload app faster, I'll get same data, empty feed or sometime I download few hours old chart data. I'm still not sure how WU servers are working. Limit in app is 10s I think, I will check it. But you can't download more actual information like every 2 minutes, I think.

btw: I also found problem with chart data. sometime is dataset in metric units, sometime in imperial... Actual data info I have more fresh. Actual data means: Temp, dew, pressure, humidity, solar.

I will add all possible values to "actual data" feed downloading for more fresh information in app.

Paid version is only without ads. In future I'd like add more stations in settings. I'm working on it.

Thanks to all for feedbacks, ideas and information from your testing, I really appreciate it.  [tup]

Can you test this station: IGMINAMI4 and what conclusions do you take from the tests?

Everything looks ok. I see actual values and also charts with correct data. Should I see something else?

You have also active solar sensor and it's sunrise.

It's a nice app but I want the data to be no more then a minute old. Counting on WU at this time while they are going through their changes hurts that.
It has promise but it needs a more options. I also understand it's new and in the development stage so I'll check back later and see how it's progressing.

What you mean "more options"?

I tried reload data faster, but I got same values. Maybe if you use API key, you can download PWS values more faster. But I have same dataset in 2 minutes.

A realtime data option would be nice like Rapid Fire.
Option to add temperature in the notification bar based on GPS
Have the external map option open up at your gps coordinates.
Inside temperature and humidity if applicable.
Automatic updates without having to use the refresh button.
A no-ads version.
Ability to choose which parameters to graph.

Thanks a lot for more ideas.

- auto refresh will be available as option in settings
- no ads version for android is in store
- external map is good idea (also I'd like wind map)
- inside values I can't read
- notification - I will check options
- I will also check rapid fire

thanks

Sorry buffy but going to have to delete your app. Signed off on WU today.
They are just too unreliable and it seems they really don't want to fix their problems.
If you could find another data provider for the USA I would certainly keep using the app.
Good luck with your endeavors.

Enjoy,

How to explain that on the WU portal data is displayed at different intervals - see the link:https://www.wunderground.com/dashboard/pws/IGMINAMI4
and your app is reading regularly - how did you write?
