How do I Start with Lightning detecting

Ive been looking at the apps that detect lightning and was wondering what was needed to contribute to them.
Though bieng in the North East of Scotland we only get one or two lightning storms a year.
Ive seen blitzortung.but Im more of a allready built system type of person but also dont have a lot of cash for some of the systems Ive seenin the thousands of pounds.

Any advice galddy recieved

Well I have to say that the expensive systems are pretty accurate but I didn't have the budget! I have an Ecowitt detector which gives me a reasonable indication of lightning in my area, yes I do get the odd false detection but very few. False strikes are more likely if you have an older property with old electrics or noisy washing machine of freezer as motors again can be problematic.and again if in a rural area electric fencing can be an issue. Initially it can be a bit trial and error to find the best position.  I am happy with mine.

I to have an ecowitt lightning detector and very happy with it as Broadstairs said.  Yes a little playing around to get the best position at 1st but once done seems to work well.

Another vote for the Ecowitt systems. I get a false strike about once every two weeks now, but for the price, it can't be beat.
