2020, The Year In Weather
« on: January 01, 2020, 12:07:01 AM »
Starting off much above normal for many, severe for some, mild for others.

50s forecast for today, but rain moving back in tomorrow.  Rivers already on the rise (again) and 2" or so certainly won't help.

There's something oddly perverse about 50 degrees just before sunrise on January 2 when the normal high temperature for the day is in the low 40s.

From NWS Hastings, NE discussion 2 Jan 2020

I always appreciate this meteorologist who takes time to discuss the longer range forecast from time to time.

Hope there is some moisture to go along with any cold we get.

Plenty of time yet to do a flip and get really, really nasty cold.  March can be downright unpleasantly cold if it wants to.

Thought I would add additional from Hastings, NE NWS long term discussion. Winter coming for the Plains and West?

That's OK as long as you keep it out there.

We're on track for one of the warmest winters on record, even though we're barely into it.

Have you earned it? The gods/goddesses don't pass out rewards without good reason.

The 4-6" band has been wavering around.  Yesterday they'd dropped us to 2-3", now they're back to 3-4", so who knows if they don't?

Forecast for around 50MPH winds could make power outages an issue considering the soggy ground.

Been raining for the better part of 30 hours.  I don't remember that happening in distant years past.

At least the highest winds didn't pan out and we didn't lose power.

RECORD EVENT REPORT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE PADUCAH KY
1247 AM CST SUN JAN 12 2020

...RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM RAINFALL SET AT PADUCAH KY...

A RECORD DAILY RAINFALL OF 3.09 INCHES WAS SET AT PADUCAH KY
YESTERDAY, JANUARY 11. THIS BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 0.96 INCHES

Now THAT's how you break a record, bust it wide open!

But CPC says the cool is coming.  Last week of Jan looks to be below normal.

80's and 60's in Florida.
The cool weather is nice but man the weather can be downright boring  in winter.
Give me a squall line. Please.
