6 years on Blitzortung
« on: April 03, 2019, 12:21:43 PM »
I was just looking through some old emails (I save everything...) and I saw that six years ago today I got confirmation from Egon that he received my payment for my 1st "Green" system. Wow, has it been that long already?

It looks like I had it up and running around the end of the month of April 2013.

Ah Yes... The 'three Red Musketeers"... I came in in July 2013 joining you and Don F ... the Three Reds joined with about 19   active Greens in the North Americas...3 or for in the Caribbean, and about 3 in South America... It was a 'big deal' when two dozen were active at the same time... hah...   had a lot of fun, didn't we?  "Wow"  located a stroke West of Kansas?  Heh...  gradually building up a bit of  station density, I remember well the first 'network' strokes up past Hudson Bay, and west of the Rockies...

Thanks, the growth and maturity of the entire Blitzortung ecosystem is impressive. I was one of about 11 US side users and the sixth working station. There was a flurry of early REDs including sacreyweather, cutty, dfroula, jumpin' joe and other "usual suspects" shortly thereafter.

Mike, I definitely remember strikes west of the Mississippi being 'rare birds' back in the day...

Wow, 6 years.  Congratulations!

I remember the time and discussions very well and you guys were the inspiration.

I took the initiative when I got this email February 8, 2014:
Quote
Hello Paul,

 I'm Robert from Germany. I live near the world-famous and fairy-tale
 Neuschwanstein Castle.

 I'm a member of the private lightning detection and lighning location
 network Blitzortung.org, which was founded in Germany.

 I found your Website on the World Wide Web. As far I can see, you're a
 weather enthusiast.

 I want to invite you to have a look at our website
 <http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/index.php?lang=enŽion=3>

 If you're interested in lightning detection and lightning location,
 you're most welcome to join our network.

 We're interested to extend our network all over the world. At the moment
 we cover the regions Europe, North America and Australia/New Zealand.
 New stations are welcome in the regions Mediterranean Sea, North
 America, Latin America, Oceania, Africa, Asia, and even in whole Europe.

 All you need is a lightning detection system, which costs less than 200
 EUR, and a permanent internet connection. The lightning detection system
 is a stand alone system, it doesn't need a PC for normal operation. But
 you have to assemble and solder it by yourselves. The system will be
 delivered as a construction kit.

 For successful operation, there are at least 4 stations needed in one
 region, and the stations should not be distant more than a few 100 km.

 If you're interested just visit our website at
 <http://www.blitzortung.org/Webpages/index.php?lang=enŽion=3>,
 join our forum or have a look at our social media sites:

 <http://twitter.com/Blitzortung_Org>
 <http://www.facebook.com/Blitzortung>
 <http://www.youtube.com/user/Blitzortung>
 <https://plus.google.com/+BlitzortungOrg0>
 <https://plus.google.com/+BlitzortungOrg-deutsch>

 I'm glad to hear from you soon.

 Regards,
My station kit got sent in March 2014 but due to circumstances I didn't get it sending until the following spring so will be 4 years soon.  Thanks for the great help by you guys.

Enjoy,
Paul
