WH41 channels and random IDs?
« on: June 18, 2022, 12:03:15 PM »
I noticed today that my Ecowitt WH41B wasn't reporting, and ecowitt.net showed the battery was red on channel 2.  I charged it up and noticed #2 never changed, then I discovered it was reporting as #3 with a different ID.  Thinking I must have done something stupid, I pulled the batteries, and now its #1 with a completely different ID!  I'm using a GW1100 and WSV+ to note these ID changes.

So, are the ID's just random on boot (which is different from the soil sensors, which have IDs on them) and how do I delete info at ecowitt.net for things that don't exist anymore -- like #3 and #2 since its now registered under #1.

1. in my experience the WH41/43 sensors have dedicated sensor IDs and come with a sticker showing the ID
2. the change of channel is a console thing, not a sensor thing.
In order to avoid such a mess, it's good practice to disable all sensors (and channels if applicable) which you don't have.
Then the console has no choice.

But after a firmware update it can happen that the console forgets the WH41/43 even though there's no alternative channel.
I have observed this phenomenon several times.

Then it helps taking the batteries off for 5 seconds and re-insert them.

If they switch channel then, take the batteries off from all (both in your case), disable all but one and insert the battery into the one you want to have on the remaining (not disabled) channel.
After it registered, open one more channel and re-insert the batteries into the second. It will now register with the open channel.

3. A no longer registered sensor will disappear from ecowitt.net after 2-3 weeks.

One of my two AW wh41 changes it's ID every time the batteries go dead or removed. The 2nd one keeps it's id. Very cumbersome when running more than one.

Does it change its ID (e.g. "B9" or "1D") or does it change its channel (Ch1 - Ch4) ?

It changes it's ID. Yes B9 to 1D or other. There is no sticker on this unit and it is the older of the two. It will also add another channel if not disabled.
The 2nd unit has a sticker and keeps it's ID.

That sounds just like mine.  No sticker on it, and seems to be an old unit.  I picked it up used for dirt cheap.
