One Wire Wiring
« on: January 01, 2011, 03:56:17 PM »
Well I am finally getting around to installing some aditional sensors using 1 wire devices.

Using RJ45 cables and my question is should all the GND wires be hooked together? eg Lines 1,3,5,and 8?

The moisture sensor is what I am working on with terms on the sensor labeled

1. GND
2. DQ
3. 12v
4. SENSOR
5. SENSOR

The info on the RJ45 has

1. Power Return - GND
2. +5vDC - Regulated
3. Power Return - GND
4. 1 Wire Data - DQ
5. 1 Wire Return - GND
6. NC
7. +12v to +24v - Unregulated
8. Power Return - GND

That makes me think I have to terminate at least 3 of the GND wires if not all 4 (Figure since [2 +5vDC] is not used I can skip [1 Power Return -GND])
