« on: October 06, 2010, 01:42:41 PM »
Hello all,
I am ready to install a Weather Cam/Web Cam. I need help in choosing the right camera. I have VWS with a Web Page and WeatherUndergound account. I would like an outside camera. So what is a good camera, that can import pics to VWS which inturn will update my webpage with the pic, (is this the way it works or do I need additional software) Any and all information will be greatly apprecited.

cheers

You need an additional piece of software like ImageSalsa to process your images. As far as cameras, I recommend the Sharx SCNC3605 wireless outdoor camera.

I'm happy with my Panasonic BL-C140A Outdoor MPEG-4 Network Camera, it's a POE. I have two new wireless coming in for other security applications, we'll see how they work out. I'm not streaming video, updating once a minute, as boring as things are here that's overkill, but the Panasonic software gives that option.

I'm pretty sure that is what most people use here (others can speak up!). I just display my stream without overlaying the conditions, I figure if they're on my page they'll see the current conditions anyway!  :-)

Another software you could try is tincam http://www.tincam.com/ it cost 19$ (30 day trial)

The best with Tincam is that you could have more than one cam (I have 4 cams running with it)

I'm currently streaming 4 USB cams using webcamxp software. It will handle 1 with no problem.

Not necessarily... there are a lot of people who search for webcams for their local area.  It could be the current conditions on your image that piques their interest about the rest of your site!

That's one of the things I like about ImageSalsa.  In addition to saving or uploading images, it gives you the option to overlay weather conditions, run scripts, crop/resize images, or do other cool things.  For example, I have one canvas I use on my main page that uses one camera during the day and switches to a different (low-light) camera at night.

Question aboout WebcamXP:  Will it allow you to send captured images to multiple locations, and/or FTP to one place and save to a local drive?

I am currently using Yawcam, but I'm looking for a replacement.  It often burps and keeps asking for a password even though I've checked the box that should ensure the password is saved.  I tried Where's James but it did not like the video drivers I'm using.  I wanted multiple cam support but it would only recognize 1 of the USB devices plugged in, and it would periodically say it couldn't find the video driver.  Ideally, I would like a package that can support multiple identical cameras, FTP to multiple locations and locally save files.

Hello all,
I have a weather camera all setup at my house. I would like to use go daddy to stream my video, because my ISP blocks port 80, make it diffcult for others to view when behind a firewall. So how I can I put my streaming video on my domain? is there a script file? is this done within the camera? do I need third party software? Any all information will be greatly appreicaed. I have a Sharx 3605 camera.

Ciao~

Hello
I'm running Yawcam with three cameras on a w2003 server.
I think it's a nice application and quite easy to setup more than one instance.

This link shows a 10 second update.

I´m using Logitech Webcam 9000 with autofocus (must have) rather cheap but Ok.

I have a Sharx and this is how I do it.

I use DYNDNS and got a free domain name daculaweather.from-ga.com. I did the DTNDNS setup in the Sharx setup. I opened up port 31000--31200 in my router and used those ports in my Sharx setup.

The one thing you won't be able to do is go directly to your camera page if port 80 is blocked. It setup my web pages for go directly to a particular stream and not even use port 80. Here's a sample of the code:
Code: [Select]
<div id="content">
<object classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B"

codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab"
width="640" height="496">
<param name="src" value="http://daculaweather.from-ga.com/en/primary_rtsp_stream.mov" />
<param name="controller" value="true" />
<param name="autoplay" value="true"/>
<object type="video/quicktime" data="http://daculaweather.from-ga.com/en/primary_rtsp_stream.mov"

width="640" height="496" class="hiddenObjectForIE">
<param name="controller" value="true" />
<param name="autoplay" value="true" />
Unable to display the live view
        </div>
I pace this on the page where I want it to show up.
If you use a dynamic DNS service, you can setup the webcam to use port 8080 and have the DNS service redirect requests to port 80 back to 8080.
