New To VWS
« on: June 27, 2010, 08:21:24 PM »
Hello Gang:

For Father's Day, my wife and kids surprised me with VWS Internet Edition (guess somebody has been looking at my browsing history). Anyway, I've been playing around with it and have just a question or two.

I have my own website - http://www.cookevilleweatherguy.com - and it is a custom domain through the Blogger platform.

How do I use the FTP section of VWS to get that cool looking site that many of you have and can I somehow tie it onto my own website?

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Michael D.

Michael,

Interbet->FTP Login Settings
Internet->FTP Login

and then

Internet->FTP Upload File (Send)

This is set so that the left side points to the .htm files  You can start with:

wx.htm
details.htm
daily.htm

The right side points to the destination directory on your web site and at the far right side you can select the frequency for the uploads.

The Internet-> FTP jpg settings needs to be configured to send all the VWS jpgs to the web site as well.

This should get you going and I would urge you to get this working before thinking about changing the software used to upload the files - which I am certain someone will suggest.

 Regards

Bill

And usa.htm.

I have the usa.htm running on my site as a backup (and test) site. I don't really use it but you can see what it does by going here: http://www.daculaweather.com/usa.htm

Have your ftp ip address, or ftp.cookevilleweatherguy.com  (will probably work) and password ready.

Then just run the website builder within VWS.  It will do everything for you.

And usa.htm.

I have the usa.htm running on my site as a backup (and test) site. I don't really use it but you can see what it does by going here: http://www.daculaweather.com/usa.htm

And delete the "Normal Rain, month to date" & "Normal rain, year to date" listings. They are the only real problems with the "usa.htm" template.

Then you can start playing around with things until you have your own layout.

Thanks for all of the support gang! I sincerely appreciate it.

I run my website on a blogger/blogspot platform and doing some research, Google says they no longer support/accept FTP after May 1, 2010.

Does this affect my ability to publish the VWS Weather Web Site Builder?

When I type in ftp://ftp.cookevilleweatherguy.com , I don't even get an option to set it up.

Any thoughts/ideas?

I'm guessing you're going to have a problem. VWS uses FTP  for MOST of everything.

Pretty sure you need a real web hosting solution...

Steve and Andrew:

How would you guys suggest I proceed? As far as hosting solutions, etc. What have you all done?

I don't know that I would recommend my hosting company although I don't know that they are any better or worse than anyone else. I use http://www.ixwebhosting.com/ on a Linux business plan.

You might try godaddy.com.

Michael,
After free Yahoo (premium version provided by ISP, I think yahoo is completely out now...) , and free Tripod... I ended up at Godaddy 3 years ago.  I have an "Economy" Linux plan.  Works great for me.  No complaints, but I have nothing (paid) to compare to.  I would recommend, but there will be lots of others as well, in fact might create a whole new thread.. and there are several out there already.
