Topic: WS90 - pole diameter

Hi!

For me, the first most important question about the WS90 concerns the attachment to the mast (pole).
Somewhere I had read that the mast should have a diameter of 1 inch.
Is that exactly 1 inch or can that vary a bit?

Background:
A M25 mast has exactly 25mm diameter and not 25.4 which would be mathematically 1 inch.
It would also be interesting to know if the mast can also have a diameter of 22mm or up to which diameter the WS90 still goes up.
Has anyone of the beta testers already made a few tests with?

The mount is quite flexible.
Its a bit like a water hose fitting where you screw the bottom fitting up to tighten the mount to the pole.
I was worried mine would need packing for a standard aerial mast tube but in the event it was fine and quite secure.

the little metal pole which comes with the WH65 (30 mm) is too big.
A 25mm diametre is the max the fixing "nut" will take (no idea what the correct technical term is).
The opening where the pipe goes into the WS90 body is more flexible - but the fixing "nut" piece is the limiting factor.
I'm using a sturdy 25 mm outer diameter (22 mm inner diameter) plastic pipe.

I went to the our local hardware store and got a 1m 25mm OD aluminium tube. I found that the compression on the pole isn’t exactly super tight like you’d probably want in a high wind environment.

I made a suggestion to Ecowitt that the Wittboy should come with a rubber or silicone sleeve to slip over the pole first then compress the wittboy fitting onto that. Effectively a packer but this will ensure a nice snug and secure fit to the pole or mast.

Regarding the position, you will have to compromise as usual with a sensor array.

Mine is now 2m above ground to be in the proper position for T/H and rain readings.
And the plastic is very stable. The same material already has done a good job with a manual rain gauge of mine, exposed to up to 120 km/h winds (exceptional but survived  ).

If you want the three sensors (temperature, wind, rain) in the optimal position, you better go for the single sensor version:
WS80 (wind - and more), WH40 (rain) and a WH32(-EP) for T/H where you can place each of the three accordingly.

P.S. I may have misread your statement regarding high wind ...
