Help! How to set up a website showing my PWS data?
« on: June 15, 2021, 06:25:10 AM »
Hi everyone

Sorry my first post is a HELP! post but for the past couple of days Ive been trying to get a super basic website sorted to simply show my PWS data in a nice simple way.

Is there any straight forward (like actually step by step for idiots like me) walk throughs that can do this?

I have a half decent knowledge of html, php and css and was hoping something simple is out there, I just cant find it!

Ive been trying to get my head around the saratoga-weather.org site, but its very confusing with seemingly far more options and templates than I could ever need.

I just want to essentially display my data in simple graphs and charts on my own site.

This is the station I have atm: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07SW52BB4/

I probably sound like an idiot (I probably am!)

Any help and pointers would be really helpful!

If your station is uploading to WU you can use my PWS_Dashboard template which uses your data at WeatherUnderground
You do not need a weather-program, or anything local read more at => https://pwsdashboard.com/

Example my sons website , he is using his weather data at WU for http://weer-wilsele.be/pws/index.php?lang=en-uk

It is not as easy as installing an app on a phone,
but also not to difficult to start with your first website.  You can adapt easily using 1 (one) setup program.

All support at https://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/board,77.0.html

Succes, Wim

Is there no historical info? Just live?

High-lows day/yesterday/ month year  in the history pop-up, bottom of  the SKY block
All historical info as graphs=> check the "graph link", in the bottom of most blocks

All WU historical info, see my demo website
=> http://pwsdashboard.be/pwsWD/index.php?frame=History_at_WU
=> http://pwsdashboard.be/pwsWD/index.php?frame=Reports_at_WU

PWS_Dashboard is a large template with a lot of extra's.
For a visitor it is a Dashboard with all information in one page visible on laptop / tablet or phone.
The menu will lead to more detailed information.

Great!
Is there a way to export/save the data displayed from WU incase they ever restrict access to historical data?

All WU data is stored locally on your own website.
The scripts download all data to your own website for later use.
You can  also update that local data when erroneous data was uploaded to WU by your station.

As long as you have your own website  at a hosting company, you will have access to all your data which was once uploaded to WU.
That is why I think that PWS_Dashboard is nice to start with when your weather-station is already uploading to WU.
The scripts can generate CSV files of any period if you want to use "excel"-type programs on your PC/Mac with your data.

=== Another option.
You can also consider installing a small computer such as a raspberry or mini-WIN10 device  locally and use a weather-program.
Some weather-programs can probably read your station directly, others can get the realtime data from WU, other will listen to what information is sent to WU.
With a weather-program you have more control over which data is gathered and calculated compared to letting WU do all the work.

And with a weather-program you have a lot more weather-templates to choose from.

I know nothing about the web languages that you have knowledge of and I managed to get a couple pages running. Cumulus feeds one and Meteobridge the other. All my links are in signature.

The Weather34 is very slick. All the heavy lifting is done lol.

I feed data from console into Raspberry Pi with Meteo Pi and Cumulus saves the dataset.

I've only scratched the surface. There are so many options once you have a Pi or two running.

This sounds great!
I have downloaded and uploaded, visit startHere.php and it fails check 5 & doesnt really say why?

Code: [Select]
This small program is used to check your web server settings if they prohibit installing the PWS_Dashboard.

You only need to re-run this program if you encounter unknown errors.

check 1   : $_SERVER["DOCUMENT_ROOT"]: result =  OK, server = www.swivellondon.com

check 2.1 : Your current PHP version is  : 7.4.15

check 2.2 : CURL support: result =  OK

check 2.3 : simplexml support: result =  OK

check 2.4 : GD support: result =  OK: bundled (2.1.0 compatible)

Well this is not the forum to have support.
At https://www.weather-watch.com/smf/index.php/board,77.0.html  you can ask your questions as there are more persons familiar with this template.

Also, nobody is clairvoyant,  so to answer your question  the link to your website is necessary.

One time only answer on this forum:
Normally the error is caused by in-complete setup of the hosting environment.
That sometimes happens when people setup an in-house webserver f.i.  on a Synology
And there are multiple other possible causes, incorrect DNS maybe.

There is a enough information in the HTML, those lines can be checked by "right-clicking" and selecting "show source / html" or similar, depending on the browser used.  99% of the times there is no problem found.

As I can not inspect that, just continue and start with the setup at . . ./pwsWD/index.php
The last line of the startHere output reads
If you have questions post those questions at  this "PWS_Dashboard part of the WW-forum

Or use another dashboard / template.
