Oh that is neat.

Looks like you just assemble it...smaller cylinder inside of larger and then top off with the funnel and place all of it inside of the holder for support. Then you just decant it into a graduated cylinder to measure rainfall. I would start off by measuring the volume of the smaller inner cylinder to see how much that holds out of curiosity. The larger cylinder is just overflow in case it rains a lot. Normally you would just need to measure daily the amount in the small cylinder.

I'm assuming this is stamped USWB (US Weather Bureau). Where did you get this?
Are you selling this? If not then this is posted in the wrong section. I'll move this post if you are not selling.

I recommend the following to take some comparative measurements.
https://www.amazon.com/Stratus-Precision-Mounting-Bracket-Weather/dp/B000X3KTHS/

Please give us the diameter of top of the funnel. We can then calculate how much rainfall per volume collected.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I do plan to sell it, but the only info I found was on ebay from 2015 the center tube which is brass sold for 300. The outside is copper and the top is copper and brass. It is 8" dia. My father worked in a brass mill since the 60's and they were shipped in to be melted down. He saved this one and I have had it for years just moving it around. There is very little info online about these but yes they were and this style is still used by USWB.

8-) It at least goes back to the sixties, the USWB became the NWS in 1970. Boy, that thing was made to last, and obviously has.
