It's hard to help diagnose the issue without a link to your weather website showing the issue...

Actually, the issue is in VWS. The metar icon has stopped updating last night

The Hamweather Metar downloads are not working for me either.  The support form on PWS.com is not working.  I E-mailed support@aerisweather.zendesk.com to see if they could check on it.

I believe you are looking for the data here:
http://www.hamweather.net/pub/data/observations/metar/stations/KMSP.TXT

While no longer a fully supported offering, I can confirm that the above data set had an availability issue the past few days. The issue was corrected yesterday.

I hope this helps, and let me know if I may be of additional assistance.

Yes, it's working—for now.  It's no longer a fully supported offering so let's enjoy it while it lasts.  :-)

Same old problem on my side. Am I the only one and can we submit a ticket to pws.com?

I wrote to aeris which has become vaisala. Not much to do. However, since it is possible to download station metar.txt file from anywhere else, I did it and replace thé CYMX.txt file by my new file in the metar folder, but it doen’t work. I can’t get VWS to change the sky/conditions icon nor display the data in the Metar Report of the software. Why is that? Aren’t metar.txt universal? Any clue on why it is not working? Does anyone has an original .txt file dowloaded and working to compare? Tx for tour help.

Have you tried switching from Hamweather to NOAA downloads for METAR.  The tgftp.nws.noaa.gov still has current METAR reports.

That NOAA option has never worked for me. For some strange reasons, just before you suggest to try that, I entered that address (ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/ in my Windows explorer window, I retrieved the Station.TXT file. After, under your suggestion, I set the option to NOAA and bingi. Back running. Maybe it has to do with the antivirus that didn't let VWS connect to NOAA. But, good guess! Tx :-)

NOAA switch trick worked for me after manual ftp download from the site of my individual stations!

The original files from Hamweather had errors "You dont have permission to download this file!".   I think the noaa switch over initially choked on those bad file reads before doing anything.

Now that we have a good NOAA Metar file we are working again!

Hello,

Could one of you explain the manual download procedure for me. Where do I put the download?  I switched it to NOAA but it's not working.

Thanks in advance

Richard

It should work. Make sure to add stations first with its 4 letter code. Than, press update. Set the update frequency afterward.

Still not working fine on my side as I thought it did. Each time I add a new station and update, I get the most recent Metar.txt file. But after, VWS connects to the server but keeps sending the same file without any change or updates. And when I check manually in this adress/folder, the .txt doesn't seem to update either.

ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/CYQB.TXT
ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/CWJT.TXT
ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/CYUL.TXT
ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/CYMX.TXT

They'ke all stuck at 19Z or 21Z (the moment I added the stations in VWS).

yeah.  I see its not updating the file...  the error message went away, so it was misleading.

Need some cron job to ftp copy them from the site maybe..

The thing is even when I copy and paste de file from NOAA, it still indicates the same time. As if after retrieving the file from the NOAA a first time would stop the file to update on their site.

Do we know where VWS download the metar from?

ftp://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/

In this folder, the metar I am looking for won't update. But in this one:

https://tgftp.nws.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar/stations/

It does, ON the other hand, it it were as simple as getting the most recent station.TXT file and put it in the folder vws/metar, it would be a piece of cake. However, there are also .CSV file into play that don't seem to come NOAA and be generated locally by VWS to parse/treat the information.

Tx if one can help!

They are using the wrong url and no way I have found to change it.
A perl script to pull the station using http might be the ticket.  I’m already using one to scape webcam pictures.

Yes, but event if I copie and paste the file from the html and put it in vws/metar, the software doesn’t read the file. I get nothing in the Metar report nor the station sky conditions.

What icon you mean? The one of your station that is replaced by the one of the metar station? If I can only get that, it would be fantastic.

Icons generated for each different metar station by vws.  They are shown on Ohlonetrail.net/wx.htm

I really dont understand how you succeed at getting those icons generated by VWS. Let me know please as I can't get the .TXT files from NOAA in VWS.
