Topic: If you are in the US, where are you getting your Ecowitt HP2533?

I had placed an order for the HP2533 during their holiday and just received an email that they could not ship to the USA because Ambient has exclusivity on it.  It is my understanding that Ecowitt components can be added to whereas Ambient  are not able to be changed?

I know some of you have the HP2533 that live in the States.

It seems some folks use Amazon.ca to order the device and either ship via relatives or use a re-ship service.

I can't make sense of this statement quoted above.

If you are referring to console and sensor compatibility, then the following is what works:
- Ecowitt console will accept both Ecowitt and Ambient sensors
- Ambient console will only accept Ambient sensors.

I apologize; I know I worded it poorly.  I thought I had once read here that you could not easily add other sensors to it as easily as ecowitt's.  I believe now what I had read that made me think that was if you had an earlier model, you couldn't always buy components to make it equal to the newer unit, but I see that may not be the case now.  It had something to do with Ambient's firmware.

It is as easy to add a sensor to Ambient systems as it is with Ecowitt's, with one caveat. The sensor has to be available, there is a tendency for sensors to be available first for the Ecowitt line and then Ambient will release the sensor a while later (with any needed firmware updates), if they decide to. This is for those systems that can be upgraded.

Well to further clarify it also depends on the model of the console if you can have additional sensors or not.

For example...

With both the Ecowitt WS2910C and the Ambient WS-2902 additional sensor options is limited.

With both Ecowitt HP2551 and Ambient WS-2000, just about all sensors are available....with the caveat that Rover1822 mentioned regarding Ambient and their firmware support for some specific sensors.
