I stopped waiting for a new version to fix my problems and moved to WD! Best move I ever made!

It appears VWS is stalled at P20. It has been several weeks since an update.

I'm not gonna bash VWS, but I've found WD stability
much more appealing.

But why fix something that isn't broke? VWS is runnig just fine at it's current version. My only dislike with WD is it's a pain in the southern exposure to set up.

Thanks,

No reason at all to change if you are a happy camper! WD is more technical, which can make it more challenging to setup initially. Well worth the extra work, IMHO.

Maybe CNYWeather should run for policticla office he is so Smooooth! :) I don't like to bash either, just ticked I spent all that money! LOL!

Anthony,
you seem like one of the lucky ones. I had nothing but trouble
with locks ups, loss of data, etc.

I'll tell you I was quite p***ed setting up WD to start. BUT,
with a little help from my friends at the WD Forums and
(yeah you too FishDude  :P )
I am quite happy. PLUS, you want something added that would
be a feature you'd like, ask and Brian adds it. Plain and simple.

Plus there is a great bunch of guys who just love
to develop new features for it too.

Because for many of us it is broken. If it's running fine for you good. But it's an incorrect assumption that your experience is the same as everyone elses.

Having to go to a different site to check to see what is the latest release is a joke.  And to add insult to injury, there isn't even a prominent link to the blogspot on the Ambient site!  Even in the support forum you have to sit on the main page and wait for the news header to flash through other items until it displays the link to the blog.  At least the main download link on the Ambient site gives you v13p20

As Anole sayid, it isn't working for lots of others, many of whom are IT professionals and VWS 'experts' who can determine the difference between a program issue and other fault.

To stay on topic I won't go on and on about the other issues I have with the support and development of VWS...

There were plenty of broken things in it when I finally said enough is enough, and bit the bullet and moved to Weather Display.

My biggest mistake was giving up too easily when I first played with WD, and put up with another 12 months of stagnation with vws.

Heck, the support is so good with WD that even before I paid money for WD, Brian added a new feature that I asked for !!! ... and it wasn't a feature that would've stopped me from moving either.

I went out and bought WebDrive because of a major showstopper bug in vws that was still broken when I left the vws 'ship'.

Oh, and I agree it is tough going to get your head around the different philosophies between the two packages, but once once you've pushed over that molehill, it's great! :)

This may be getting a little off topic, but here goes. Is there a way for me to run WD side by side with vws? For example. Could I install WD on one of my other files and have it use the data files created my vws? Or would I need a program that allows two programs to share data from the same com port?

The one think I like most about WD is all the ways it has of displaying the weather data.

Thanks,
Anthony

If you run Tinplates Virtual VP Anthony,
you can run both of those programs simutaneously

http://www.wxforum.net/viewforum.php?f=45

Just curious, why share the VWS files with WD?

I would just like to be able to  run both prograns side by side so I can compare the ability of each program to display different types of data.

Theres one pressing question I want to ask about WD. Why do you have to enter an offset in order to get it to display the correct pressure? Why can't it just read it from the weather station console and then calculate the sea level pressure? It just doesn't make sense to me why the program was set up this way. To me it just makes the program that much more difficult to set up.

Question on Virtual VP. Will it work across a network? My weather computer is a bare bare bones computer. I don't think it would handle running two weather programs plus Virtual VP.

Thanks,
Anthony

Sure will! Took a little "tweaking" for me to get it working here. Steve has all the info on his page, drop him an email with questions! After some initial setup headaches it has been running flawlessly here for a couple of months.

I have a dedicated older P4 machine with 512MB. No problems running everything! Even after running for several days I have 100+ MB free memory. I have no stability problems with VWS, it was the FTP that drove me away.

Virtual VP

Startwatch (to keep an eye on everything else)

That's the really strange thing. I have never, ever, had a problem with the FTP functions in VWS. Have been running it for years. It just runs and runs on a machine that is loaded heavy. Go figure.....

I wasn't aware Steve's VirtualVP ran on anything but the VP console? Anthony has an OS station.

I belevie VirtualVP has to run on the same machine that the console is connected to. I then us the Lantronix client to run VWS on another station with a serial port mapped to the VirtualVP machine. I actually have my VirtualVP machien reeading my envoy, I like my console downstairs!

Missed the fact that he had OS. VirtualVP requires a VP! :)

Then Anthony MAY be able to use 2 serial ports and a serial splitter or DataTap, or a software solution similar to VirtualVP. It all depends on if that station just streams data for the PC to listen to.

I used a DataTap for a few years to feed my Weather Monitor II to both VWS and WinAPRS. All WinAPRS wanted to do was start the data and then listen to it, so that worked OK. I set the DT so the WinAPRS port couldn't talk back to the station, and let WeatherLink or VWS control it.

Thanks everyone for you help and suggestions. Guess I just go with what I have. My next big expense is going to be a new station even if I have to purchase another OS. I've been almost 3 years without an anemometer. I hate being poor. :(

Thanks,
Anthony

Anthony, my understanding is that you can (and have been able to do for months now) set to use the sea level barometer reading from a WMR968 station with WD (i.e no offset needed).
