Jpeg Forecast Icon for Snow Prediction --- Does it exist?
« on: February 09, 2009, 10:07:49 AM »
Hello,

I have a Vantage Pro2 and using VWS.  I have noticed when the snow icon is displayed on the VP2 console for the forecast prediction that a Heavy Rain forecast jpeg icon is created for it within VWS.  I've looked around and it appears that an jpeg icon for snow doesn't exist.  Is this correct?  If not, please let me know.

Thanks,
Randy

Thanks for the quick reply!

Okay, I found the directory called icons that show all of the different forecast icons, so I guess now my question is changing to why doesn't the appropriate icon (by jpeg number) get used for the various predictions? Within VWS, Icon Display Settings, JPEG Settings, I have the Jpg Filename called icon (to create the .jpg file call this) and also have the box checked for create jpg file (required to send to FTP server).

Perhaps I've got some confusion going on here...  :-)

could this be caused by your smart forecast being set up wrong??

Interesting... maybe that's the problem.  I'm not using Smart Forecast.  I'm using the setting called Weather Station Prediction.  So if that is the reason I'm not getting the additional icons, can I simply change it to that setting and call it good, or do I need to tweak settings?  If it's the latter (tweaking settings), where's a good place that I can get info on how to do that?

Thanks!

If VWS is set to use Wx Station Predict, and snow is predicted, then you should be getting icon 17/18/19; not heavy rain.
Smart Forecast [SF] will not fix this, unless it's a very wet snow, and the bucket tips twice/15min, then you might be able to set a variable; which still may not work.

You could verify the prog is pointing to the correct icon though.  Verify the icon. Or, Enable SF Override, then set a condition, like Temp <32 and choose the Snow in the right column pull-down.  If it displays heavy rain, the correllation is dorked.
