Want to create a site...
« on: May 23, 2015, 10:40:49 PM »
Well I really want to create a weather site but don't know how to go about it. I've saw so many good ones with current conditions from their station, alerts etc. I know how to do basic web stuff but need help getting a template and getting started. Any help is appreciated :D

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
well this is a really broad question. I see you already have some sort of a site, so maybe give a bit more information about what exactly you would like to have, what weather station you use and possibly how you want to get the data to the web.

I do work with a site but do not own it :D

I use the Acurite 5 in 1 and would like to somehow feed it through the my backyard weather feature or Wunderground. I see you make templates. I would love to use one just don't know how to get started.

Thanks in advance!

My template is not yet finished, but of course you will then be able to use it and I can help you with setting it up. Tomorrow I will be sending first version to some of "my beta testers"and hopefully not many bugs will appear so I will be able to release some version 1.0 soon.

If you just want to send data to WU you dont even need a website, many softwares allow you to do this directly, for example Cumulus, Weather Display, Meteobridge etc. Which software do you currently use/plan on using for your weather station?

I already upload to wunderground :D

I just want to have that data displayed on my site and have space to put forecasts, warnings etc.

Something kinda like this http://www.vaughanweather.com/wxstation/

Thanks in advance!

You can try Ken´s template too, it is actually one used by the site you provided link to. If you know just a little bit of php and HTML, you should be able to get it up and running, there is quite detailed documentation and also millions of answered questions here on the forum:

You have to get a weather software program  and download the plug in for that software. Alot of us use Weather Display. So you would download the USA Template with the WD plug in.

If not look at Virtual Weather Station or use Cumulus. Cumulus is probably your best bet and the easiest to set up and it's free.

I am not a user of Weather Display, but I found that it should work:

I don't think WVS is being supported anymore from recent post about issues and Ed's responses.

So do I need to always keep a computer on for this to work properly so weather display will send data?

Yes, with any of the weather-software that run on your PC.  Cumulus is likely the easiest to set up.

If you want to run weather software on an 'appliance' like a small router, then Meteobridge works quite well.  There are folks who have it running on a Raspberry Pi also (and a distribution for Weather-Display on a Pi also).

Does cumulus work with Acurite? That's my main problem is Acurite isn't compatible with much.

Meteobridge is absolutely amazing as you dont need your computer 24/7 on.....

I use meteobridge myself, for my template meteobridge is the absolute best and easiest to use, but I think that even Kens template works with Meteobridge, just get one of those cheap routers and many of us can help you configure it, even though it is so easy that Im sure you will be able to do it yourself

well then you will however need your computer 24/7 on, otherwise there is no way you can have your data online nonstop. Those routers for meteobridge are really cheap and also dont forget that even if you dont buy it and use your current PC, the consumption etc. cost something too.

your weatherstation is not supported by meteobridge nor by meteohub as far as their websites tell us.
