A prob updating to newest version
« on: October 28, 2008, 08:25:39 PM »
I have tried numerous times to download Version 14 p 42 to no avail. Each time, I get the "insert disk 2" error.
Today, I downloaded the program at work. Brought it home, attempted to install and got the error "Fatal Error - Out of Range"
scrolled down on that window and it said " Distribution.cpp 4842"
I am using V13.01 p9 and it is fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
Using XP sp3
VP2

VP2 w/ 24hr FARS and solar, XP sp3
VWS 14.01 p31
Regards,
Steve

I just upgraded to V14.00p43 from V14.00p40 using this link with no problems:

http://site.ambientweatherstore.com/vws/beta/vws_install.exe

I think your at least the second to mention similar problems upgrading from a V13 version.  I wonder if Ed has left something out of the latest versions that is causing it to fail if the previous version is older then V14.xxpxx?

I put in a "trouble report" on the Ambient website.  I think you may be right. The Version 14 downloaded fine at work onto a memory stick..When I tried to install here on my machine that I have V13.01 p9 on , it errored out. Is there anywhere to get an older version of the V14? Like 14.01 p 1 or 2 for example?

Not that I know of but do have 18 of the V14's between p01 and p43 still on my hard drive I could post on my website with a link for you to try.  But the thing is there were one or two V14's in there that were bad ones that caused some problems.  I think I deleted the ones that were the most problematic but I sure would hate to send you one that might cause other problems.

Probably best to see what Ed says first.  Otherwise maybe start with trying a p31 or 40.  (I have them.)

I suppose another possibility might be a conflict with an anitvirus or antispyware program.

Mark,
I went and downloaded p43 and this time, works like a charm.  I don't know, unless it was taking hits on the download earlier..
