Weather Station topsite
« on: August 26, 2013, 01:19:29 PM »
I've had to shut down the top list because of a flaw in the script (that's what my host did say) this affected the server it is on and this was about to crash.

My domain was suspended for 24 hours because of this and I do not want to risk this happening again so that is why I did shut  down the Weather Station topsite.

Are you shutting it down permanently or just until you get the problem fixed?

Then I might as well remove the link to it from my site, since it still isn't working.  Good luck in getting something done about the problem.  Thanks.

Weather Station Topsite - New Host
« Reply #3 on: September 01, 2013, 08:08:54 PM »
Hi all,
As a result of the troubles that Lars at Axelvold has been suffering at the hands of his host he has agreed that he pass over the hosting of the Weather Station Topsites to myself. I will need to contact his existing members list separately, but if you wish to join now, you can do so my clicking on the button on my website now.
I am using a different button graphic to that which Lars was using, however I am not going to enable the ranking/voting system because I think it is too subjective, so instead the button will measure monthly hits, average monthly hits and daily page views.
We couldn't really call it Axelvolds Weather Topsites, so instead we have called it 'World Weather Websites' and it is exclusively for those of us who feed live data from our weather stations to our weather websites.
Please come along and join up if you wish.
Many thanks
Steve @ Cotswold Weather in the UK.

Hi Steve,

Thanks for taking over for Lars. It is really crappy the way his host has treated him over this. I just signed up. Best of luck to you.

Hi John, I agree, he was really sad about this, a lot of effort went into setting it up.
I've just approved you, so a very big welcome aboard.
Many thanks
Steve

Hi Steve and good morning. I noticed the 'Category' part stays without the world location being available as before. If it even matters, that is.
Thanks for letting me on.

Hi Dan, it's okay, we're not using the Category element, since we are all going to be Weather Station Websites. It's a generic package which allows you to create sub-categories.
best regards
Steve

Hi Marcel,
I've just done the approval, many thanks for joining. That's 17 members so far, which is great.
No reported issues as yet, so hopefully the buttons and the visit counts are working as they should.
If anybody finds anything funny, please let me know, it's my first Topsites script implementation, so was a little nervous.

Thanks all
Steve

Steve, when I go to your website, Sophos blocks it as a High Risk website, because it has found "Mal/HTMLGen-A". I'll disable the Sophos web monitoring so I can sign up for the topsites, but you may want to contact Sophos and have them re-evaluate your website. Thanks John,
I did have a problem back in February of this year that required a full clean-up and the site is now scanned daily by several security scanners, so this is probably a hang-over from the problem back earlier this year.
As a result of some of the posts on this and the other forum, I have also installed ZB Block, which adds another layer of security.
That said, I am paranoid, so if you, or anybody else encounters any other problem, do please let me know, there are a lot of terrible invaders out there.
best regards
Steve
