Other notes, I have do not have the IP static on my router, I just let it use the DHCP as normal. This is OK in my instance as I rarely need to access it directly by IP. (and if I need to I can quickly look it up on the router interface by MAC)

Router is an Asus RT-AC87R , and on this one, I am using the same SSID for 2.4/5 GHz and both radios running.
This is also my main router, not one of my extension routers working in AP mode. This router handles more traffic than probably most casual user's traffic, My monthly Internet transfer is over a terabyte. The internal network transfer is crazy high with the 11 security cams recording 24/7 to an internal NVR and all other devices (like 40).
I only run one subnet, or internal network (LAN). I also have network  switches all over the place

Also for power all of my Gw1000s, (except one), and the GW1100 are getting power from a true UPS, even the one GW1000 that isn't has not had an issue

And no issues, of course now that I have said that, I probably will have one

If you can see that the GW1000 has disappeared off the network from something independant like the Nirsoft tool you have been using then that is a fairly good indication that it's given up at Layer1 (ie. it's dropped the Wifi association with your router). Especially as the GW1000 will be trying to upload data regularly to the APIs so it would be unusual for it to go to "sleep" and disappear out of the MAC (layer 2) or ARP (layer 3) tables on devices.

My comments around broadcast traffic and multicast is that the network stacks of embedded devices can be intolerant of batting off excessive amounts of broadcast or multicast traffic. That's not to say that the GW1000 would suffer from this - but if you know your way around network packets and can cope with Wireshark, maybe just a quick look at what is floating around your LAN using wireshark and that there's not loads of broadcast or multicast floating around would be useful. If there is any multicast and your router has an IGMP option, turn it on! In fact, turning on IGMP in most domestic situations would rarely cause any problem, but could prevent unintended consequences with maurading multicast. Bonjour used by apple products and mDNS are the usual suspects you migth see domestically and generally don't cause any problems as they are low bandwidth.

If its been a problem child GW1000 since day one maybe the writing is on the wall, but observing the status of all the LEDs on the GW1000 before you next power cycle it wouldn't be a complete waste of time.

Thanks for the advice!
The ISP supplied router/modem is something called a Ovislink OV804WVA.
By default IGMP is disabled. I've downloaded the manual and am still looking for the config screen to turn it on.

Yes indeed, problematic child out-of-the-box. I could experiment and buy a different/better USB charger and a longer USB extension for about the same price as a new GW1100 so after battling with this thing for several months, I decided to go with the second option rather than the first. I will report the results....

I'm having the same problem, been doing it for the last month. I'm going to go with the GW1100 and see if solves the problem.

I had a lot of trouble with my GW1000 and have switched to GW1100. It is imperative to configure with only 2.4gHz and to have a separate cable with external power supply. When I used the USB port on the computer, the GW1100 also shut down at regular intervals. Now it has worked uninterrupted. I bought my GW1100 from Ecowitt USA for just under $ 40, well worth the money.
Best regards Jan

We really advise against plugging the GW1000/GW1100 into a computer. I know it seem logical to do so. Some have sleep functions that impact the USB port, as well as other functions. A lot of us know how to turn these off on our computers, but some do not.

I found it a lot easier to configure with a tablet without a phone app than with a phone.

What is nice about the GW1100 is that you can configure it with a PC/Computer as it is done through a web page. Although the presentation of the web page is a bit rough as opposed to a tablet or phone. With the GW1000 , you need to use WSView on a tablet or a phone. As of now you can't configure that GW1100 with WSView, maybe this has changed , if so someone correct me.

You may configure everything on the GW1100 (sensor IDs, calibration, weather services) as usual except (for now) checking & updating the firmware.

The initial pairing doesn't work (yet) for a GW1100 with the WS View app - everything else, once paired with the router, yes.
Or, let's say, I never got it to work.
Cannot check anymore as mine has become resistant against factory reset.

FOR the GW1100. I was able to to do a factory reset through the web interface. I know , this may not help anyone with a locked / bricked device.

But you can do a reset via the web interface

I'm not going to do this a lot is it is a pain to reconfigure :)

Have you tried the WS View Plus app? I had better luck on a tablet using that app. How to access the GW1000 with a PC?

Unfortunately you cannot, the GW1100 has a web interface accessible from a web browser

I can't remember - that was at the end of August. But I don't remember any difficulties either.

I have now looked in my notes:
I used WSView Plus for the initial setup.
And that worked flawlessly.

So I didn't try the initial setup with WS View ...
Sorry!
But as already written: (at least) everything else can be configured with WS View.

I got it running with the NOX app player (Android emulator on Windows).
Installed latest NOX player, downloaded and installed WS View from the Google app store inside NOXplayer.

By the way, that's one of our recommended setup/pairing options if you don't have a smartphone or tablet.

And, using a tablet without phone functionality avoids WS View to get confused by the data network - and you get a bigger view.
On the smartphone it means activating flight-mode, then switch on WiFi to have a successful pairing.

I use the Nirsoft wireless watcher

Have you tried Nirsoft's Ping Monitor.
I find it handy to leave running on a few IP's when I'm suspecting issues.
Gives good statistics of the devices you set it to monitor.
