Will there be a version for the Access?
« on: January 11, 2018, 11:49:13 PM »
Kevin,

Just wondering if you were working on a version for the Acurite Access since it's the hardware that's currently replacing the Smart HUB, and I'm sure that one day the HUB will be extinct.  Since the Access just recently became available, I'm sure you haven't had much time yet to look into it.

Just wondering if it's a possibility.
Hardware:  Acurite Atlas with Lightning Detector

I don't believe the "Atlas" is available as of yet.  There is also the issue that it has been reported that the data stream is encrypted. This would make parsing it extremely difficult.

On the test version, the data is encrypted. I hope the new models that are going out are not, but I don't think anyone has tested them yet?

Even if you dance around the encryption problem, data is only sent to myAcurite in 5-minute intervals, so that may not be terribly useful.

Sniffing the wunderground stream makes more sense as it is not encrypted and sent in real-time.  The disadvantage is that you'll only be able to pick up data from one sensor.

Right now I am using different sensors for Temperature/Humidity and the 5in1 for the rest. I like this feature offered by Kevin's Software. I also use my data locally to run my own web server in real time (18sec). I definitely don't want to lose that ability. Just have to be patient and stay positive about the new weather station for now. It looks like a great piece of hardware!

The thermometer in the new Atlas is just as accurate as the tower thermo/hygro for temperature, and even more accurate for humidity response in my testing. This is winter testing, so when the heat comes, we will see how it does in the hot sun, but I really don't expect an issue there.

It looks like there is someone getting data from the Access Hub now!

good to see real robust debate about the pros and cons of the new Acurite products on that github project
seems the windspeed updates are a little less to be desired?

What "debate" are you talking about?

We are talking about the reporting interval of the 5n1, not the Atlas.

The reporting interval of the Atlas is 10 seconds.

I'm not sure what the wind sampling window is, though.  On the 5n1 the windspeed sampling window is 4 seconds, not 18 seconds as many assume.

The reporting interval of the Atlas Elite is 2 seconds.
