Title: Any use for a Vantage Pro1?
Post by: Rickoo on January 19, 2021, 07:49:41 AM
I've updated my VP1 wireless and am wondering if I should toss it or if anyone has found any use for them? It still works fine after 15+ years or so. (Other than the rain gauge and the anemometer it pretty worn, but still functions) The console looks like it did when I first bought it. I was happy to get the length of service I did from it and am hoping the VP2 lasts as long!

The main problem with a VP1 is that it's virtually impossible to get spares or new accessory transmitters for it. That said, the rain gauge and anemometer are compatible with the equivalent VP2 parts (though not the temp/hum sensor).

Beyond that comment, I'm not sure quite what question you're asking. No harm at all in keeping the VP1 going for as long as it can be maintained, though whether it's worth spending money to replace eg rain gauge or anemometer is debatable (though they could be used as spares for a replacement VP2 of course).

But if you wanted to eg add new temp/hum, soil moisture etc sensors or to explore new options for data handling such as Weatherlink Live then you're going to need a VP2 for that.

.....anyone has found any use for them? .....

I am putting together a few parts for local monitoring.

I would be interested in the transmitter and console for sure should we be close enough to make it work.

PM for details?
