Running WeatherLinkIP and Cumulus at the same time
« on: February 04, 2014, 07:57:46 PM »
Hi

As per subject, is this possible? I tried it but Cumulus seemed to have interfered with the upload of WL to WU.

WL is running on my PC 24/7 now and updates to WU every couple of minutes. I also enabled it on the WL website as a backup in case my PC locks up or crashes. But I like the simplicity of Cumulus. WL looks like it was designed for Windows 95.

Thanks

Prior to version V3.12 (I think that's the version) of the Davis console firmware you could use a third party piece of software called VirtualVP to run two or more programs using the data from the logger at the same time.  Davis pretty much killed that when they hit V3.12.  I'm sure some of the more knowledgeable folks will comment, but basically with today's equipment and software...running two programs won't work. :(

Will you be putting your station on the internet?  Many people run Cumulus as their main console and for uploading to their websites.  They will shut Cumulus down every week or two and run Wlink for a short period of time simply to download and archive the data stored in the datalogger to Wlink.  Cumulus has been so stable for me that I have actually given up on trying to keep my Wlink data current (I kept forgetting to shut Cumulus down and crank Wlink up  ).  I've only had my station up and online since June of 2013, but during that time Cumulus has been some of the most stable software I think I've ever used.

Ed,

You should just make it a "First-Of-The-Month" routine.  That's how I remember to do it.   :-k

I just downloaded the data and was at 100%.  :-|  I'm taking it that I'll have been gaps in my Wlink data...???  I think I'm going to start trying to remember to do it on the 1st and 15th...if I can just remember it!!!<sigh>

Hey Ed, you might want to schedule it as a task using the built in Windows Task Scheduler.  That way you won't have to remember!

Either that, or change your interval so that you have 36 days so you have a day or two leeway once per month (that's what I do)

Re scheduling to temporarily run WL to keep up its data, I do it at the 15th and last day of each month as my 10 minute interval setting is good for 17 days of datalogger and that gives me 2 days grace.

That's great info guys, thanks!  I'll have to set up a reminder in my calendar to run WL to store the data.

Yes, that's working for me too! I have WD, Cumulus and Weatherlink running on 1 PC thanks to VirtualVP and a serial ports emulator.
Perhaps it's helping you?
