I have a long run of the anemometer cable along the house siding.  The cable is attached to the house using standard cable clips nailed to the house.

Every time I need to remove the anemometer for service, house painting or whatever reason, I have to pull all the clips off the house to remove the cable and nail them back on when reinstalling.  It is a pain.

Does anyone know of any cable clips that would allow slipping out and reinserting the cable while the clips stay attached to the house?

TIA

These are the clips I am using:

This obviously doesn't address your question directly, but this would solve all those problems for good.

https://www.scaledinstruments.com/shop/davis-instruments/data-viewing-and-telemetry/sensor-transmitters/davis-6332-solar-powered-wireless-sensor-transmitter/

Yes, the cable runs from the anemometer high up on the chimney to this anemometer transmitter mounted 5ft from the ground. I did not put the transmitter up there with the anemometer because A) the only convenient mounting surface would be oriented to the north, which is unsatisfactory for the solar panel B) every time I needed to replace the battery I'd have to climb up on the roof.

But it's a point. I have the transmitter near the anemometer at another installation and it solves the problem, but the roof there is not as steep :).

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

I don't see anything in your post showing the clips but this sounds like a job for some 3D Printing.

What do your clips look like?

Or this?

The one with the 3M VHB (very high bond) might be a better bet. There might be something similar to the first one with a screw hole available, I think that I remember seeing them at one time.

I use something similar to these:
(I don't remember the exact brand, but I think that the local hardware store has them).
The drill screwdriver makes quick work of removing them.

Don't forget they need to be UV stable for outdoor use otherwise they will all break when you come to unclip them in a year or two. In general white, and transparent plastic clips are not. Whichever clips you go with make sure they are designed for outdoor use.

This is what I use indoors and out to secure cables. Great in the attic where the adhesive ones fail due to the high temps up there. Just use the right UV stable ties for outdoors.

Back in the days of rooftop TV antennas, I recall someone selling screw-in J hooks with a captive rotating slot made of plastic insert.  You rotated the inner slot opening to point at the opening in the J hook, slipped in your flat-lead antenna wire, and rotated the captive inside thingy 180 degrees to lock it down.  Perhaps you can DIY something similar to hold the anemometer cable?????

I also use these curtain rods to protect outside cables from cable chewing critters and the sun. You get them in various lengths and just add as many sections to cover the length of cable. You don't have to cut them shorter, just slide the pieces together until it fits. Place the cable in the slot and zip tie to a pole or mounting bracket. If the cable comes down a chimney then on to the roof, cut halfway through on the slot side and bend to the desired angle. Spray paint the bare metal to prevent rust.

Another advantage, it is easy to install over existing cables.

There is a picture in the original post.  Maybe it failed to load when you read the post? I actually use black ones that are (hopefully) UV stabilized.

The new ones would also have to be attached with screws/nails, I have rough cedar siding and double sided exterior tape does not stick to it well.

Lot of ideas in the other posts, thanks guys.

The picture in the original post does not appear in most browsers because it is specified with an insecure http URL (below) while the rest of the page uses https.

Rats.  Thanks for the alert.

Nice. After two chew through's from critters, I decided on this to run the 50' of cable from my RW bucket to the ISS in the desert. Needless to say, no problems since, and easy to fish as well.

Yes, something like this. I woud try to nail them to the wood by the flat part outside the cable area. Maybe two small nails into each to supplement/or replace the adhesive.  They do not say they are UV stabilized, though, so they probably are not. May become too brittle over time to undo/redo the strap.

Thanks, I'll look into it more.

I put these up on the lower backside of my houses fascia this year to hold up Christmas lights.

I was initially doubtful they would hold up the lights without falling off but they did the job.  The lights came out easily at the end of the season and I left the clips up for next year.  They are supposed to be good for outdoor use but I can't yet attest to how long they hold up in the elements.

I spotted these while checking the CamarilloWX post link. This might give you the best of both worlds 3M adhesive and a screw. Belts and suspenders, so to speak...
