Raspberry Pi B+ SQL Faking Davis Logger for Meteobridge
« on: January 27, 2015, 07:32:39 PM »
In trying to solve my lack of logger access by Meteobridge, I thought that perhaps I could use a Rasppberry Pi B+ running SQLite (or MySQL?) to capture the Davis data via port 22222 that MB now supports.  Total cost should be 60 bucks for the RPi plus the usual MB costs.  Oh, I was planning on using the Dlink 505 since it has more memory for PUSH services.  Or will a regular TP-Link work as well with the Davis VP2?

Anyone already done this sort of thing?

Have not done this personally, but the plan looks fine to me. MR3020 should do.

Thanks Boris.  So does that mean that only non-Davis need the extra memory of the 505 do do push services?  And can I try this out with my current MB/Acurite setup to push to the RPi on port 2222?

Meteobridge can only provide Davis WLIP like data, when it is connected to a Davis data logger. If you have an Acurite or other type of station connected, port 22222 will NOT provide Davis like data. This feature is about passing through contact to the Davis logger to a connecting PC program, not about simulating the Davis logger protocol, regardless which station is physically connected.

Ok - thanks for the clarifications.  My ultimate goal was the Davis, but I had hoped to test with my Acurite bridge.  So would Davis data on port 22222 be  available to say, a Raspberry Pi or would it be better to just use PUSH services to write to the SQL database hosted n the RPi?

Davis Data will be available on port 22222 (when using a Davis logger). Pushing data by push services to the RPI sounds like the more logical solution to me instead of having 2 weather programs running that share a weather station connection. When the RPI program can do some magic (graphs etc) with the weather station data (that Meteobridge is lacking), then passing through the logger data might be the better way. So it depends a bit what you are aiming at.

Great advice. Thanks!  I will (probably) eventually run Weewx on it to get graphs like this http://www.weewx.com/screenshots/royston.png that I will display on an old Android tablet.
