Good news!  I bought a WS-0800-IP on ebay for $47.  It includes a WH32E, a WH32B, and an ObserverIP Receiver.

I believe I can use the OBserverIP to test sensors.  I think if they will work with it, that they will work with the 2000 and 5000.

So I got the WH32E that I really wanted, but I'll still try to figure out if the WN32B can work as a WH32E.  I'll take a photo of the WH32E board when it gets here.

Here are some interesting observations about these units.  I took apart two Ambient WH31P (WN30) units, and they had some major board differences.

Both boards are marked WHP0155 [B1V09 or C1V03]

This is what I was calling Type2. This had the addition J13 which I've not seen before, and the TH sensor section (which is missing at the top) seems to have its own through holes for a module style, vs the single board variant (below):
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

And this was what I was calling Type1:
[ You are not allowed to view attachments ]

I might need to rethink that numbering after looking at the silkscreen dates.

WHP0155C1V03 2020-04-13 2130 (assuming manufactured week 30 of 2021)  But appears to be an older design, maybe.
WHP0155B1V09 2020-9-22 2111 (assuming manufactured week 11 of 2021) Appears to be a new cheaper, integrated design.
WHP0155B1V08 2017-2-15 1949 (FCC filing)

It's hard to make statements like this w/o more data. There could just be two (three?) versions of this board, C version 3 and B version 9.

Does anyone know the LCD part number?  I have a clouded screen that I would like to replace. They are just held in place with pressure from the screws holding the board to the front plastic.

you could ask support@ecowitt.com - they recently sent me a replacement display for my WH32-EP sensor which had gone clouded resp. didn't show anything anymore.

That's probably a better idea, given that this is not a standard part as the display is customized.

I can confirm that the WN32B (the Ecowitt equivalent of the WH32E, but new board design), without mods, works with the Ambient Weather ObserverIP (aka Network Weather Hub).  I have the older CAT5 only version of the hub (WS-0800-IP); not the one that supports WiFi.  I think it will be seen as a WH32E by the WS-2000/5000, but we won't know for sure until I get my WS-5000 or someone else tests it.

I can confirm that my WH32E also has a resister that bridges between T6 and the lower half of J10.

I have an Ecowitt WN32B outdoor thermo-hygrometer that works with my Ambient ObserverIP.  I believe it is unlocked and will work with the 2000/5000.  I'll test when I get my 5000.  I'm asking for a 5000 for Christmas, so it will be a few months.  If I don't get one for Christmas, I'll buy it.

Ecowitt WN32B (Although the link says WH, the model number on the sensor is WN32B)
https://shop.ecowitt.com/products/wh32-outdoor
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MZ4RWY1

This sensor should override the thermo-hygrometer in your sensor array that is exposed to the sun.  It should show up in the 2000/5000 as sensor WH26.

On the WN32B product page:
"Outdoor Humidity & Temperature coded replacing your outdoordata of sensor array under the same console;"

Some Amazon reviews that say it works with Ambient, but I think they all are using an Ambient ObserverIP hub.

Yes, I just tested mine as well, a recent Ecowitt WN32 outdoor unit shows up on Ambient WS2000/5000 consoles (I tested a couple with different firmware versions) under WH32E.  However, it does not show up on my WS-0900-IP(observerIP) (the old one) running firmware 4.6.2.  I'm not even sure where it would show up.  I can't recall if that is supposed to work on ObserverIP or even the 1900/2902 consoles.

that's possible but maybe not very likely as they have depreciated their own WH32E - would be counterproductive for their business and would make customers, at least those who would make themselves knowledgeable here, move completely to Ecowitt.

Then a WH32-EP should also work with a WS-2000/WS-5000 as the difference to the WH32 is just the soldering of the external probe instead of the probably remaining internal probe. Even Ecowitt consoles cannot tell if the WH32 outdoor, the T&H sensor as it it marked in the sensorID page, is a WH32 or a WH32-EP.

Well, I can't speak for Ambient, and we have always questioned their business decisions, but I can see it happening (seen it before). They may have  different plans, get their own version, etc... or whatever deal they had with Fine Offset has expired. I found it interesting when someone
recently, could get a WS80 from Ecowitt shipped to the US recently. Understand, most of their clients probably don't read this forum. They wanted their own ecosphere and total product control, but has this changed?, no idea.

All conjecture on my part, but still be wary, as we have seen this before.

Edit: So at this time , just informing someone with an Ambient console, and buying an Eco Witt sensor , that although it may work now, be aware it may not in the future. Of course , if that happens just buy an Eco Witt GW series console and you will get the data, but if the console  display is the most important to you, just be aware. Ambient console firmware updates are slow, no where the frequency of EcoWitt for essentially the same console. And we have seen mistakes happen .

It is a different company, that sells systems from other vendors, not just F/O. A few years ago the Ambient company was bought out by Nielsen-Kellerman. Prior to that we had the owner of the company posting in here. Since then , no recognizable contact with the new owners, and how they are going to support, or expand their F/O offerings. They may have decided to go in a completely different direction as they have the resources to do so.

I started with Ambient equipment, and now buy both , for how much longer , no idea

Ambient console firmware updates are slow, no where the frequency of EcoWitt for essentially the same console. And we have seen mistakes happen .
let's say they don't have new requests for firmware changes towards Ecowitt - as Ecowitt are writing the firmware. It's the same firmware for all Ecowitt clone consoles including Ambient.
Only, by the console name (WS-2000/WS-5000/HP2550/GARNI .../Froggit) you find on the "About" page the distinction for different handling of sensors is made if the brand owner has such requests.
So far it's Ambient US/Australia and GARNI Europe (better Czech Republic - noone except people in need of Czech language would buy a "crippled" HP2550 console at a much higher price than Ecowitt, Froggit etc. in Europe - unless they don't know better) only who have "ordered a special meal"   8-)
That's why you can apply the latest "Ecowitt" device firmware also to Ambient branded Ecowitt clone consoles. The WiFi firmware is a different kettle of fish, that's a separate piece (also made by Ecowitt) for Ambient consoles.

That's why you can apply the latest "Ecowitt" device firmware also to Ambient branded Ecowitt clone consoles. The WiFi firmware is a different cattle of fish, that's a separate piece (also made by Ecowitt) for Ambient consoles.

I think you meant "kettle" , sorry it was funny
correct - it was was supposed to be "kettle" (corrected now), but it was, as you said, kind of funny with the cattle  \:D/

Yes, I just tested mine as well, a recent Ecowitt WN32B shows up on Ambient WS2000/5000 consoles (I tested a couple with different firmware versions) under WH32E.  However, it does not show up on my WS-0900-IP(observerIP) (the old one) running firmware 4.6.2.  I'm not even sure where it would show up.  I can't recall if that is supposed to work on ObserverIP or even the 1900/2902 consoles.

I believe the WS-0900-IP needs the 4.5.8 firmware.
https://ambientweather.com/faqs/question/view/id/1718/

On my ObserverIP the sensor shows up under Outdoor2

And this is where I want to beat Ambient for their naming conventions.   The "WS-900-IP" is a bundle of a very old weather station and the ObserverIP module.  I actually have a WS-1200-IP that comes with the ObserverIP module. Firmware 4.6.2 removed the "WS-900-IP" array from the menu choices and replaced it with... something I can't remember at the moment. :)

I'll try again later tonight, perhaps I was too far away from the ObIP.
Ambient Consoles: WS-2000, WS-1900, WS-1200, WS-2902C, WS-3000-X3, WS-0900-IP(observerIP), WS-1001-WIFI
Ambient Arrays: WH65B
Ambient Sensors: WH31E(3), WH31B(2), WH32B, WH31SM(2), WH31PGW, AQIN, WH31LA(3)
Ambient Spares: WH24B(2), WH25B.
Ecowitt: HP2551BU, GW1000B(dead), GW1100B(2), GW2000B
Ecowitt Sensors: WH51, WN34BL, WN34(2), WH31, WH41, WH40

You're right.  The hub is the same for all the systems in the list.  I think when you select a station from the list, you are just selecting a sensor bundle profile.  So to be able to see the WH32E or the equivalent WN32B, that sensor would have to be in the profile.

As you said, the 4.6.2 firmware no longer has the profile for the WS-0900-IP, but it does for the WS-0800-IP, which includes the WH32E sensor.  So you could test with that profile if you didn't want to roll back the firmware.

I believe that is how it works.

I was using firmware 4.6.2 with the WS-0800-IP profile and the hub saw the WN32B as Outdoor2.

Edit:
I just checked and the WH32E was only in 3 IP profiles.  The WS-0700-IP, WS-0800-IP, and WS-0900-IP.  The WS-800-IP is the only one in the list with the latest 4.6.2 firmware.
