MyBlitzortung in modded Saratoga Narrow
« on: September 09, 2013, 10:53:55 PM »
 :grin: Got a 'Beta' MyBlitzortung up and running at http://ourspecial.net/twinhollies/weathercenter/blitz/... still got nit-picking to do and figuring out how things work, but have the basics, and some general customizing and mods to fit in stripped down Saratoga 'narrow' templates.
Now, if I can figure out all those parameter thingies... .  8-[

Cheers!
Mike

Mike, very nice. Looks like data can only be seen by logged in users.

Great job.  Is it possible for a "Green" participant to grab the RED data for MyBlitzortung?

Like I mentioned, I'm still figuring out stuff on this as I have time...
Looks like data can only be seen by logged in users.

Yeah... some data isn't available for non-participants/guests. Partly to stay in line with Blitzortung usage restrictions, and partly because I haven't figured it out yet. Stroke and other Network data won't be available, Zoom and Search parameters are restricted for guests, couple of other things. Couple of things seem to have a bug... oh we need a few 'round tuits' also... Most or all of the 'statistics' stuff may disappear from visitor view a bit later, also.
Is it possible for a "Green" participant to grab the RED data for MyBlitzortung?
I'm pretty sure this thing is 'Cross Color'  :lol: - Tobi had to rewrite it to bring in the Red stations. It's totally independent of your station, everything is fed by Blitzortung... same data sources as 'MyLighteningMaps. The platform is just a 'downsized' My Lightening Maps, I think.

Another thing is my changes etc in language aren't incorporated in any lingo but English... the Rosetta Stone Robot went for coffee and never returned...

I think Don F. has installed this on his server, but we haven't talked lately. I'm thinking that us stations might give other participants a user id to access each others 'restricted' data on our individual installs, since this might help each other in areas where a station has problems or new innovations,... don't know about that, but it's a thought... There are 'hints' of 'hook-ups' in the files, but I've not explored them.

Speaking of help, I've another innovation I'm testing from the Weather Cave... any of you Curious Blitzy Folks (CBFs only, for now) wanta try it or help, send me a PM... might include your station# and Blitz ID# so I know you're you, if you follow me... We'll test this out and all get rich and famous.  :twisted:

Thanks, Mike.  Just uploaded new version to my host and now can't get the google map to show.  I did not overwrite my config file.  It shows an error at the bottom of this page http://harwichweather.com/lightning.php.  Any clue what I need to change?  I visited the user area like the readme says after upgrading.

It might be this from the change log:
Quote
Version 1.1 (2013-09-09)
------------------------

- several fixes (import, statistics)
- new: added Swedish translations (thx to Alex)
- new: added Polish translation (thx to Wojtek)
- new: map of North/Middle America

Version 1.0 (2013-08-23)
------------------------

- switched to the new data format
- removed myblitzortung station connect (will be replaced later)
- removed signal import (to much traffic, will be loaded when needed)
- removed polarity stuff
- removed graphs which depend on signals data
- renamed strike -> stroke
- other fixes
- 1.0a: fix for update not working
- 1.0b: fix longtime-statistics

!!!!! IMPORTANT NOTES BEFORE UPGRADING !!!!!

1) If you are updating from a previous version, then the upgrade process needs maps the old format to the new format. This might not work when the old format has been disabled in October 2013! The upgrade process can take VERY LONG - maybe hours on slow servers with lots of archived strokes. If the update fails due to a timeout, try it again and ignore all errors. If you have problems, consider deleting unneeded strokes or do a fresh install.

2) There's a new constant BO_STATION_ID, where you have to set your station id. If you make an update, the station id is determined automatically and stored in the database. However, setting BO_STATION_ID manually is the preferred way.

3) Please remove all "BO_IMPORT_..." settings from the config.php file!

4) For compatibility reasons, there are now two IDs for each station. An internal Id, which is the same on as before the update. As before, it is used with "bo_station_id=xxx" in the URL. The second one is the original Blitzortung.org Id. It can be accessed with "bo_sid=xxx" in the URL. This Id is also shown in the stations table. This Id is the same one for every station on every MyBlitzortung installation, but not the other Id!

I've not upgraded, but will work it in as I have time... I made a lot of changes in some of the files so gotta be careful./../..

All fixed.  I had to delete the database and re-install it.

Care to share the secret, Mike?  I've been unable to get MyBlitzortung working in a Saratoga Narrow template ](*,).  For now I've settled for a link to my standalone MyBlitzortung.

I should really apologize, I should have caught this and clarified... . No excuse, just old age:

What I should have said was "Based upon my Saratoga Templates Narrow".
My confusion  :oops: arose because
1) I was working on stripped down Saratogas for another page at about the same time, and
2) I had originally called, for e.g. the "ajaz gizmo", to insert, but couldn't reconcile positioning, etc because of some factors below... (and haven't got back to retry such insertions again).
 I suppose all the fooling around merged together in the few grey cell I have left that still function, and thus we have a mis-titiled topic.
I simply didn't realize it until your post!

The styling, general layout is from the CSS and general layout of my Saratoga Narrow pages, but it's mish-mashed in and around the Blitzortung scripts.

And it's a bear to find where to change what! FireFox Web developer is a must to find elements and then locate them in CSS or (and this was a real pain) inside a php include!

Here are a couple of 'gotchas' that may pertain, one was necessary on my server, and the other for something-or-other  :?: :?: :?:
I needed
Code: [Select]
date_default_timezone_set('America/Kentucky/Louisville'); in the index.php, before anything else (your PHP timezone)
Code: [Select]
<?php
date_default_timezone_set
('America/Kentucky/Louisville');
/*

*/
include_once 'blitzortung.php';

$title bo_get_title();

if (!
headers_sent())
{
if (defined('BO_UTF8') && BO_UTF8)
header("Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8");
else
header("Content-Type: text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1");
}

?>
<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" />
<!--<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" /> -->
<title><?php echo strip_tags(_BL('MyBlitzortung')) ?>: <?php echo $title ?></title>

and  I commented out
Code: [Select]
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" />... . I forget exactly why, validation, or issues in some browsers, or both. That's what it took to fix whatever it was.  #-o (The reason must have fallen out with that last batch of grey cells )

Another real bothersome thing was getting the images, graphs etc to 'center'. Part of that is similar to a line that follows in index.php
Code: [Select]
<style>
/*#myblitzortung ul#bo_menu{margin-left:-10px;}*/
</style>
and in CSS trying to place the menu drove me crazy for a bit, if I remember right... But for some reason that "-10px" proved important somewhere, so I left it in... . Seems like there was another line or two in 'style' that I deleted ???  ](*,)  There's some similar stuff in the 'includes' that has to be located and changed,  inline styling applied to the element and stuff, rather than in the CSS. Couple of 'em took me many minutes (ok, hours) to figure out. Like one graph or map or something that just wouldn't behave, 'till I finally found it's 'special' code and inline style... (I think it was in an added div tag, that I just couldn't figure out) seems like that was the 'animation' map that threw me so long trying to position.

I guess what I'm saying, I hunted and pecked my way through this, and now have it to a point I can't just upload and overwrite to update a file... I'll have to do line changes manually. Ah... so what!

Sorry for the confusion!  :oops: :oops:
Cheers!
Mike

Thanks for the detailed reply!

I'll set about trying again with your hints in mind.  I can't seem to overcome a path problem that has the script looking for images in a blitzortung.php at the site root level, where it doesn't live.  I get no images and a flurry of errors like this at the console:
Code: [Select]
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found)  http://www.gwwilkins.org/blitzortung.php?tile&zoom=7&x=15&y=25&type=0&bo_t=4_1_0
I think I'm missing something fairly obvious.  Perhaps another look at the scripts is due.
