NWS Alerts - CAP v1.1 Terminating?
« on: October 11, 2022, 04:44:39 PM »
Hello all,

I was doing a little routine maintenance, and while checking into a new coastal zone I wanted to add to my coverage, I noticed this message on the alerts.weather.gov landing page:

What does this mean for those of us using the alerts.weather.gov ATOM/XML feeds for NWS Alert data?

Thanks,

As long as they continue to offer ATOM/RSS feeds from alerts.weather.gov, the change to CAP v1.2 shouldn't impact our scripts.  The advforecast2.php V5 script does fetch alerts in JSON format and will continue to do so.  The nws-alerts, atom-advisory and atom-top-warning scripts all use the ATOM XML feeds.

I'll make any required changes to those scripts above if needed.
